Kirby Allison (born April 1, 1983) is an American businessman and menswear influencer who runs a popular YouTube lifestyle channel and menswear website.

Early Life

The middle of three children, Allison grew up in Spring, Texas, a suburb of Houston. He attended Westfield High School, where he was active in student government and named “Mustang of the Year” his senior year. He attended The University of Texas at Austin, where he gained a BBA in Business Honors and Finance and a BA in Economics. He was a member of the prestigious Tejas social club.

Career

Upon graduation of College, Allison worked in Dallas, Texas, for FTI Consulting as a financial analyst. While at FTI Consulting, Allison begun developing a luxury wooden suit hanger, which he sold to fellow menswear enthusiasts on the side. In November 2007, The Wall Street Journal published a full-page review of his suit hangers, declaring them an “enthusiastic best overall”.[1] This allowed Allison to quit and pursue The Hanger Project full-time. The Hanger Project has since been rebranded as Kirby Allison.[2]

Allison’s company was the first luxury wooden hanger collection marketed exclusively to end consumers. According to one article, Kirby Allison had managed to "turn the lowly clothing hanger into a luxury product".[3] His hangers have been featured in publications such as Esquire Magazine, Robb Report, and The Rake. Allison expanded his product ranges to include luxury garment care accessories and, eventually, luxury shoe care accessories.

Allison was the first retailer in the United States to carry famous French shoe polish brand Saphir Medaille d’Or and quickly grew to become their largest retailer in the world. Allison launch several Shoe Care Guides that helped popularize Saphir Shoe Polish in the United States, with Esquire Magazine, after meeting Kirby, printing that the polishes sold by Kirby "are some of the finest shoe polishes ever to touch leather".[4]

In 2021, The Rake Magazine listed Kirby Allison as one of their 'Rakes Of The Year'. Tom Chamberlin, editor of The Rake, describes the awards as "Honouring those who in 2021 personified our definition of Rakehood with their elegance, charm and kindness — and, most importantly, their strength of character".[5]

Media Career

In [2015] Allison launched a YouTube Channel featuring in-depth shoe shine and garment care tutorials. The channel has since grown to feature a diverse range of content, including feature length documentaries, tutorials, interviews and travel pieces. The ethos of the channel was centered around exploring the world of quality, craftmanship and tradition. To this end, projects have been filmed with some of the world's most famous and historic luxury brands, from across the many lifestyle categories, such as footwear, fashion, cigars, tailoring, lifestyle and more. In 2021 the channel reached a landmark 200,000 subscribers, averaging at times over 5 million views per month. The channel itself is currently just short of 50 million views in total in just 6 years.

Some of the more prominent documentaries have also been released on Amazon Prime Video
