Kim Crockett is an American attorney, politician, and right-wing voters advocate. The Minnesota figure was a legal policy advisor for Minnesota Voters Alliance[1] and VP and general counsel for the Charlemagne Institute.[2] Kim Crockett announced her candidacy for Minnesota Secretary of State on December 9, 2021[3] for the election that will occur on November 8, 2022. Currently, she opposes Democratic-Farmer-Labor Party incumbent Steve Simon, who has held this position since 2015.

Early Life and Education

Crockett was born and raised in Minnesota with roots in the Twin Cities and Greater Minnesota. She attended the University of Minnesota where she received her BA in Philosophy. She later attended the University of Pennsylvania Law School where she received her JD.

Career

For many years, Kim Crockett worked as an attorney in the state of Minnesota. Notably, she has worked as an attorney, policy advocate and writer at Minnesota institutions like Center of the American Experiment and Intellectual Takeout.[4] In 2019, she shifted her efforts toward election policy. She volunteered with the Minnesota Voters Alliance (MVA), and worked with American Majority.

In 2019, she was placed on an unpaid 30-day disciplinary suspension from the Center of the American Experiment for comments she made about Somali-Americans in a New York Times story regarding the resistance to refugee resettlement in St. Cloud.[5] According to the Star Tribune article, she said: "These aren't people coming from Norway, let's put it that way. These people are very visible."

Kim Crockett is a current candidate for the Minnesota Secretary of State position against DFL incumbent Steve Simon.[6]
