Khaled M. Abou Taam (born 22 June 1970) is a Lebanese architect and academic. He is a professor at the Faculty of Fine Arts at the Lebanese University and a co-founder of the architectural practice KMA Atelier.[1] In 2021, his design for a preschool in Ethiopia won the international Archstorming competition and was later featured in ArchDaily.[2] [3]
Education
Abou Taam received a Master of Science in architecture from the Kharkiv National Academy of Urban Economy in Ukraine in 1995. He later earned a PhD in architecture from Kyiv National University of Construction and Architecture in 2001.[4]
Career
Abou Taam is a professor at the Faculty of Fine Arts and Architecture at the Lebanese University. He is a co-founder of the architectural practice KMA Atelier.[5][6]
Abou Taam's work is centered on sustainability, humanitarian design and social responsibility. He has participated in international architectural competitions[6]and has been covered in media sources.[1][5]
Selected projects
In 2021, a design by Abou Taam for a preschool in Ethiopia titled A heart was the winning entry in the international Archstorming competition. The proposal incorporated locally sourced materials. The project was covered in ArchDaily.[7][3][8] Following the 2020 Beirut explosion, Abou Taam proposed an urban intervention project titled Bibliothèque de L’Escalier in Gemmayzeh. The proposal aimed to convert a public staircase into a community space and small public library for residents in the affected neighborhood. [2][7]
In 2022, his project Kinetic Cube, a concept for a micro-dwelling, was mentioned in the Lebanese mediaAl Liwaa[9][10]
