Katy Nicole Beskow (born 6 October 1987) is a British author[1]. To date, she has published seven internationally-sold cookbooks, with her top selling title 15 Minute Vegan.[2]

Early life

Beskow was born in Kingston-upon-Hull to parents James Beskow, a bank manager, and Dorothy Beskow, a nursery nurse, and lived in the Yorkshire coastal town of Withernsea until the age of 11. The family, along with older sister Carolyne, moved to the Yorkshire market town of Beverley. Beskow was a pupil at Longcroft School, Beverley.[2]

Following studies in health and social care at Hull College, Beskow moved to London in 2006 to study BSc (Hons) Physiotherapy at St George's, University of London.[2]

She resided in south London, where she started to develop a passion for cooking after visiting Tooting Market. Beskow became Veganism within weeks of moving to London aged 18, and has told media publications that she made the decision to become vegan based on "ethics, and a cheaper way to eat".[3][2]

Beskow received a BSc (Hons) Physiotherapy in 2009 from St. George’s, University of London.[2]

Career

After university, Beskow worked in advertising sales at Hull Daily Mail, before securing a physiotherapy job for Humber NHS Foundation Trust. Beskow worked part-time as a senior NHS physiotherapist until 2018 at the same time as developing her writing career.[4][2]

Beskow started the blog Little Miss Meat-Free in 2013, as a way to share vegan recipes.[2] She began to pitch recipes and articles to publications and first appeared in the Holland & Barrett magazine Healthy[5] and The Independent[6] with a vegan recipe for Pancake Day.

In 2014, Beskow won the Great Vegan Bake Off[7] run by PETA,[8] and was awarded Best Vegan Blogger (for Little Miss Meat-Free) at Viva! 20th anniversary awards.[9] Beskow travelled nationwide between 2014-2018 to demonstrate at food festivals,[10][11][12][13] and was the first vegan cook to appear at The Great Yorkshire Show[14] and The Ideal Home Show.[15]

In 2016, Beskow gained representation from literary Agent Victoria Hobbs at AM Heath.[16] Her debut book 15 Minute Vegan was published by Quadrille Publishing (Hardie Grant) in 2017.[17] and it became a best seller a week into publication following a radio appearance on BBC Radio 2’s Steve Wright in the Afternoon.[18][19]

Beskow then published the following titles with Quadrille Publishing (Hardie Grant) 15 Minute Vegan: Comfort Food (2018),[20] 15 Minute Vegan: on a budget (2019), Five Ingredient Vegan[21] (2019), Vegan Fakeaway (2020), Easy Vegan Bible (2020).[22] Her 7th book Vegan Roasting Pan is set for release in 2021. Beskow is currently writing her 8th book for 2022 release.[23]

Beskow makes regular appearances on national BBC radio programmes, including Steve Wright in the Afternoon and Nicki Chapman's show on BBC Radio 2 in January 2021.

Beskow is a freelance writer with her features often appearing in magazines[24] and newspapers.[25][6] Beskow teaches vegan cookery classes at Yorkshire Wolds Cookery School, East Yorkshire[26]

Personal life

Beskow lives in East Yorkshire.[27]

In 2021, Beskow announced that she is adopting a child.[28]
