Katrina Matthews (born 13 March 1991) is an English professional triathlete specialising in the Ironman and 70.3 distances. She is a member of the BMC Pro triathlon team and is also a physiotherapist working for the British army[1].

In 2021, she came 4th in the Ironman 70.3 World Championship.[2] In 2022 she is racing her debut Ironman World Chapionship in St. George[3][4].

Triathlon career

In 2018 she won IM 70.3 in Calgary as an amateur [5]and then won the UK national champs later on in the year[6].

In 2019, Katrina won Challange Gran Canaria as an amateur and then secured her pro license. She then went on to podium at four middle distance events and came 16th position at the World IM 70.3 champs in Nice. This was also the year of her first ironman, IM Western Australia. She came 4th and debuted with a time of 8:53:58.

In 2020 she won Ironman Florida with a time of 8:40:50 securing the slot as the 3rd fastest ever british female.[7] She won the Outlaw X[8][9] and won IM 70.3 Tallinn[10] qualifying for the IM 70.3 world champs in 2021. Notably she also won the UK national 100 mile cycling TT in 3 hours and 55 minutes.[11][12]

In 2021, Katrina came 4th at the IM 70.3 world champs in St George and also had the 4th fastest time in the inaugural PTO Collins Cup winning her group.[13][14] She also won IM UK in Bolton[15] and came 2nd to Daniela Ryf at IM Tulsa[16].

In 2022, Katrina won Lanzarote 70.3 beating the reigning Ironman world champion Anne Haug by over 3 minutes[17][18][19][20][21]. She has also been selected to participate in the Sub7Sub8 challenge racing against Nicola Spirig after replacing Lucy Charles-Barclay in the line up[22][23].
