Early life and career

Catarata was born in Las Vegas. His parents are of Filipino descent, and he was raised Catholic. His first exposure to politics came at an early age, when his family and Aunt, Nadia Jurani, worked to support Nevada Governor Kenny Guinn[3] and Las Vegas Mayor Oscar Goodman.

In 2014, Catarata was a survivor of the 2014 Las Vegas shootings when anti-government shooters killed two Las Vegas police officers then proceeded into a nearby Walmart. Catarata and his family escaped the Walmart and fled through the fire exit door[4]

In 2020, Catarata was elected a Youth Commissioner for the Nevada Advisory Commission on Mentoring during the COVID-19 pandemic. His tenure included engaging non-profit organizations in Nevada and students in the Clark County School District. He was elected Chairman in 2021 and helped bring back micro-grant funding to mentoring non-profits[5] through the Nevada Department of Education.
