Karakalpakis Nikos (Greek: Καρακαλπάκης Νίκος) (born May 21, 1978) is a Greek singer of artistic and popular music.

Backround & studies

Nikos Karakalpakis was raised in center of Athens and from early childhood his mother, Tamara, introduced him into music world, as she was an amateur soprano singer. In 1984, parallel with elementary school, he started lessons in National Conservatory of Athens until his graduated with grade "excellent" in the contemporary song section. In 2003 he graduates from Department of Music Studies of University of Athens.

Since 2007, till present, he has been working as a professor of music in primary and secondary level public schools and at the same time teaches orthophony and contemporary song.[1][2]

Career

His debut in singing was in 2004 with his participation in the Greek artistic group of Graviton with highlights the new album by Protasis Music and his common performance with famous Greek singer Miltos Pasxalidis in 2005.[3][4][5]

Since the summer of 2007 he collaborates with the composer Pigi Lykoudi and gives concerts in venues like Benaki Museum, Ianos, the "M. Kakogiannis" foundation, castle of Monemvasia etc.

In November 29, 2011 during a fest of the Ecumenical Patriarchate he performs songs, composed by Pigi Lykoudi, in a concert given under the auspices of the Greek Consulate at Sismanogleio Palace in Istanbul and in the presence of the Ecumenical Patriarch of Constantinople, Bartholomew I.[6][7]

In 2012, was released his first English digital single "Turning the tide" with music and lyrics by Gorgi from Nucafe Records. Three years later releases the digital single “Άνοιξη” (“Spring”) by Music Art Lab and the few months later the digital single “Ακριβή μου καρδιά” ("My precious heart"). [8][9]

In 2016, participates in the music album “Τα πάθη της αγάπης” (“The passion of love”) composed by Lykoudi P. and Saltas Th. and in the same year MLK company releases his first personal album named “'O,τι μας ανήκει” (“What belongs to us”). This album according to IFPI’s official records was in the first half of its release date in the group of 40 Greek and foreign best sellers cd’s in Greece.[10][11][12]

Along with the discography, Nikos Karakalpakis collaborates in live performances with important Greek artists such as Giannis Spanos, George Chatzinassios, Lina Nikolakopoulou, Nena Venetsanou, the Linos Kokotos, Filippos Grapsas, Pigi Lykoudi, George Kagialikos, Areti Kokkinou, Maria Papadaki, Thanasis Saltas, Gorgi, Andriani Zaggana and many more.[13][14][15]

In 2018, the salsa version of the song “Σταγόνες της αγάπης” (“drops of love”) is released by MLK.[16][17][18][19]

In January 2020, singer’s second personal album "Ιέρεια" ("Priestess") written and composed by George Kayalikos is released.[20][21][22]

On March 6, 2020 Karakalpakis N. coordinates and sings in the musical performance entitled “Ψάξε στο ονειρό μας” ("Search in our dream”) which took place in Τhe Athens Concert Hall’s "Lillian Voudouri" " music library.[23][24][25]
