Mr. Kanak Dhanai[1][2] was born on 20/03/1994, in Raiwala, Khand Gaon, Dehradun. His father Mr. Dinesh Dhanai[3] a self-made successful leader who started from becoming a statehood activist and achieved more success stairs. He, later on, participated in electoral politics and was chosen legislature for the home constituency. Besides that, his father also served in the state cabinet ministry with portfolios of Tourism, Youth Welfare, Health Education, Religious Fest, And Pilgrimage. His mother, Mrs. Seema Dhanai served through her life in the upbringing of Kanak and made him what he is today.

Childhood

Kanak described his childhood as "full of opportunities". Kanak spends his childhood in Tehri Dam where he grew up in an atmosphere of political influence and always saw his father as an honest and successful leader. His father had him educated at the best schools and universities. Being always influenced by political terms and atmosphere, he made up his mind to walk on the path same as his great father. However, his self-interest in political studies turns out to be fruitful for him.

Youth

Kanak Dhanai became ardent of politics during his youth. He completed his high school at The Friary, Oxford. Apart from this he never left studying politics subsequently and sooner he got the real chance to go in-depth to learn our history and to know the rules and regulations that run the country. Kanak stepped into Humanities and opportunity knocks at his door real soon. He was elected as the school's vice-captain and fought for the students' right of utilizing the gym by day scholar and also cajoled the Board of Governors to accept special feast semi-monthly, with the same budget for boarders. Keeping an eye on everything, Kanak’s vision started to get broader. Kanak saw the law as the core of politics where lawmakers are elected through a fine process and could change and bring new dimensions in law and policies.

Graduation

Kanak's enthusiasm and always had a habit of learning more was everything that he further moved into the political stream and joined the Petroleum University|University of Petroleum and Energy Studies to complete his B.An L.L.B(Hons.) Specialization in energy laws. He finally sees law as a discipline that gave him a better picture of political reality.

Higher Studies

He embarked on a new journey and pursued his M.Sc. in Political Theory from the Queen Mary University of London Boat Club|Queen Marry University of London. Learning from a foreign university upheaval his vision in the legal & political framework. He learned that the political structure of India and the UK works differently. His internship with legal panjandrum helped him in gaining knowledge over the untouched spots and to strengthen the existing plethora of topics he was already aware of. His knowledge did not only grow in the national legal sector but also international legal sector.

Professional Works

In 2014, he worked for Legis Legal (Maharani Bagh, Delhi) with the Project Finance team and decorticate a research note on Corporate Social Responsibility. In December 2015, he worked on family-related matters like divorce and maintenance, and in addition, he also assisted in Election laws and municipality laws. These works were under the guidance of Advocate Jayveer Rawat, Advocate Tehri District Court (Uttarakhand). Later on, to hone his skills, he moved to Nainital High Court where under the guidance of Advocate Vipul Sharma, he professionally observed court proceedings and prepared a research note on the Land Acquisition Act. In December 2016, he worked at Advocate Tehri District Court(Nainital) under the mentorship of Advocate Dinesh Miyan and he learned matters related to Negotiable Instrument and Motor Vehicle. In July 2016, he interned under Advocate Ajar Rab (Rab and Rab Advocates and Solicitors, Dehradun) and worked on the UP Rent control Act and Evidence Act. Kanak was a keen learner so he continued learning and worked on Benami Transaction and Money Laundering Act with MAP Corporate Legal (Defence Colony, Delhi) from 20 December 2017 to 20 January 2018. Kanak also handled the administrative and filed work for CEQUIN (NGO) Okhla Vihar, New Delhi.

In 2016 after making it to the Nainital High Court, he filed public interest litigation in the year 2016 comprehending the predicament of people from his home district. The case is also available as Kanak Dhanai Vs State of Uttarakhand.

Writings

Kanak Dhanai also authored a book named "Why Balkanization"[4]. The book focuses on the secession of Uttarakhand state in the year 2000.
