Kalle Oskari Mattila is a Finnish[1] journalist[2], essayist[3] and critic[4].

Research

Mattila reports on branding, and is known for his contributions to the emerging study of debranding and the branding of queerness. Mattila's reporting for The Atlantic[5] has been widely referenced in academic literature[6][7][8][9] and is taught in universities across the United States[10].

Adaptations

Mattila's essay for The New York Times 'Modern Love' column was adapted into audio form by actor Cory Michael Smith, who read it at the Provincetown Film Festival. The reading later aired on the Modern Love Podcast, on NPR[11], and was published in The New York Times.

Mattila's essay on immigration for The Washington Post was also referenced as part of the basis of a production at Berkeley Repertory Theater.[12]

Education and teaching

Mattila has taught creative nonfiction writing to undergraduates at Columbia University,[13] where he earned his M.F.A.
