Kaivalya Vohra (born March 15, 2003) is an Indian entrepreneur renowned as the co-founder and Chief Technology Officer (CTO) of the e-commerce platform Zepto.[1][2] Vohra is recognized as the youngest Indian billionaire to secure a position on the IIFL Wealth Hurun India Rich List in 2022.[3] Furthermore, he has garnered recognition for his inclusion in Forbes' esteemed "30 Under 30 Asia" list.[4]

Vohra started his career with the founding of Kiranakart, which later transitioned into Zepto, a pioneering e-grocery platform, alongside his business partner Aadit Palicha.[5] Since its inception, Zepto has evolved into a prominent player within the e-grocery segment.[6]

Early life and education

Vohra was born on March 15, 2003, in Bangalore, India. He completed his initial education in India before relocating to Dubai. He attended Dubai College, where he showcased proficiency in mathematics, physics, and computer science. Displaying leadership capabilities, Vohra held roles such as deputy head boy, under-19 basketball team captain, and founder of the school's Computer Society.

Subsequently, Vohra and Aadit Palicha pursued higher education at Stanford University in the US, aiming for bachelor's degrees in computer science. However, the outbreak of the COVID-19 pandemic prompted Stanford to shift to online classes. In response to these circumstances, Vohra and Palicha made the pivotal decision to focus on their entrepreneurial venture and subsequently opted to discontinue their college education.

Career

In 2021, Vohra initiated his entrepreneurial career as the co-founder of Zepto, an innovative e-grocery and food delivery platform. Currently serving as the Chief Technology Officer (CTO) at Zepto, Vohra leverages his technical expertise to enhance the technological aspects of the platform.[7]

Zepto's innovative approach to delivery, offering more than 3000 products in under 10 minutes, has positioned it as a frontrunner in the e-grocery sector.[8] The company's efficient delivery system, boasting an average delivery time of 8 minutes and 40 seconds, is facilitated by an extensive network of 'cloud stores' or 'mini-warehouses' strategically situated in densely populated neighborhoods. The company expanded its reach to major cities, including Delhi, Chennai, Gurgaon, Bangalore, and Mumbai.[9][10]

By 2021, Zepto had delivered over a million orders and collaborated with 86 grocery businesses.[11] Within a mere five months of its inception, the startup achieved a valuation of $570 million, supported by notable investors such as Y Combinator, Glade Brook Capital, Nexus Venture, Global Founders, and Silicon Valley angel investors Lachy Groom and Neeraj Arora. [12]

In 2022, Zepto broadened its offerings with 'Zepto Cafe', enabling select areas of Mumbai to access a cafe-like experience by offering beverages and quick food options.[13][14]

Prior to Zepto, Vohra and Palicha jointly initiated Kiranakart, an online grocery platform focused on timely deliveries within 45 minutes, which later transitioned to Zepto.[15]
