Kahootz is a cloud collaboration software service that allows users to create and customise secure online workspaces for a range of purposes, including team collaboration, file sharing, Project management software and stakeholder engagement.

History

Delivered as Software as a service, Kahootz List of collaborative software is owned and operated by INOVEM Limited. INOVEM was founded in Weston, Berkshire in 2001 by Peter Jackson. INOVEM’s team collaboration software was launched in 2003 as a product of INOVEM Inclusionware[1] and then rebranded as Kahootz in 2012. It was decided early on that the service would focus on targeting the government market[2] after a government-led initiative in 2012 encouraging Small & Mid-Level Business (SMB’s) to participate in the public sector Digital Marketplace (formerly CloudStore). Kahootz was awarded UK Government IL2 accreditation in 2013[3]. Government Ministers have recognised Kahootz as a positive example of the G-Cloud initiative, with around 80% of Kahootz’ business coming through the G-Cloud procurement framework[4].

Notable contracts

2015 saw Kahootz’ first contract with The Ministry of Defence, powering its primary collaboration tool Defence Share. In February 2016, it was awarded a second two-year G-Cloud contract with The Ministry of Defence[5].

The iteration of G-Cloud 9 launched on the 22nd of May 2017 with Kahootz software (under the name of INOVEM Ltd) being part of the 2,847 list of suppliers making it onto the framework[6].

In July 2018, Kahootz signed two G-Cloud contracts with the Department of Health and Social Care (DHSC) and NHS England (NHSE)[7]. This meant Kahootz was the provider of collaboration software for NHS Arm’s Length Bodies’ the Business Services Authority, NHS Digital, NHS Improvement[8] and NHS England[9], as well as Public Health England and the Health Research Authority.

Kahootz software is used by the NHS to power FutureNHS - the NHS’ only current cloud collaboration platform. It is utilised to improve team cooperation across health and social care via a network of thousands of virtual workspaces[10].

A third two-year contract was awarded by The Ministry of Defence in July 2019[11]. In March 2021, Government Business Services, part of the UK Cabinet Office, selected Kahootz as their software of choice to improve collaboration between UK Government departments.

Building on its integration across The Ministry of Defence, Kahootz now actively supports private sector clients across the defence supply chain and, as of 2021, is a lead sponsor of Team Defence Information[12].

Kahootz has supported and supplied to the G-Cloud every year since its inception in 2012. As an SME, the G-Cloud has supported Kahootz by providing opportunities to fill the gaps where certain known software falls short, especially where multiple organisations need to collaborate securely[13].

Kahootz is a member of ADS Group Limited, the trade organisation representing the defence and security industries across the UK[14], and Team Defence Information[15] both which are clients and users of the Kahootz platform.

Security

Kahootz runs across UK-based servers and encrypts data using HTTPS/SSL connections. Kahootz is ISO 27001 certified[16] and completes regular audits by CREST approved penetration tests. Kahootz also meets annual accreditation tests to show it meets the fourteen cloud security principles set by the Government.

Awards

Kahootz has garnered multiple awards in recognition of its contribution to the collaboration software industry, namely Winner of Best Digital Marketplace Project working with The Department of Health[17]at the UK Cloud 2015 Awards. Kahootz was also shortlisted at the UK Cloud 2018 Awards for the ‘Best G-Cloud Public Sector Provider’ award and the ‘Best Public Sector Project’ award with NHS in association with Kahootz[18].
