Kenneth Jordan VanDerwerken (born June 12, 1990) better known as KJ VanDerwerken is an American entrepreneur, and investor.[1] He is currently the founder and CEO of VanDerwerken Properties, Movement Insurance, and Locker Room CLT.[2] He is a recognized real-estate investor in the Charlotte region who has pioneered the concept of investing in long-term and income-producing residential rental properties. VanDerwerken is also one of the early investors in ADA, the native token of Cardano which helped him in further increasing his wealth.[3] In 2023, he founded and own a full-service marketing and media agency "KYS Group".

VanDerwerken started investing in real estate in 2012 and since then, he has built a real estate portfolio exceeding a million dollars.[4] He gained attention especially during covid when the real-estate market had major ups and downs, which he used to rehab and flip homes for profit. Through his company, Movement Insurance VanDerwerken has helped well over 4,000 clients with a business exceeding $4,000,000.[5][6]

VanDerwerken is noted for his value investing and as of January 2022, he has a net worth of $2,500,000. He has attracted attention on social media for his lifestyle and built a massive following on his social handles.[7][8]

Early life and education

KJ VanDerwerken was born on 6 December 1990 in Cobleskill, New York to Ken and Kari VanDerwerken. Right from his childhood, he has been an avid follower of sports. After high school, VanDerwerken moved to Charlotte, North Carolina to pursue a Bachelors’s degree in Finance at the University of North Carolina at Charlotte.

Career

VanDerwerken developed an interest in real estate investing in his youth. At 22, he purchased his first home. Shortly after, he started a real estate investment company, VanDerwerken Properties.[9][10] Under his leadership, his company’s early focus was on the long-term, income producing residential rental properties in the Charlotte region. He has steadily built a real estate portfolio exceeding a million dollars.[11] Recently with market trends, VanDerwerken have been rehabbing and flipping homes for profit.[12][13]

VanDerwerken also works as an insurance agent with Movement Insurance. He received his insurance license to sell in 2013, he has helped over 4,000 clients, and currently servicing a personal lines (insurance) book of business exceeding $4,000,000.[14][15]

In March 2020, he joined his friend Matt Alexander to help build a curated and premium online vintage store, Locker Room Clt focusing on historic sportswear and pop culture pieces. The first year the company did over six figures in revenue.[16]

In August 2020, VanDerwerken became an early investor in ADA, the native token of Cardano. By 2021, it finished the year up 670%, and at it's peak was up 1700% giving him millionaire status off the investment.[17]

Personal life

VanDerwerken currently lives in Charlotte, North Carolina. During several interviews, he has shared that he is very close to his family and enjoy spending as much time with them as possible. VanDerwerken is an avid follower of sports and a die hard fan of Carolina Panthers , Charlotte Hornets and UNC Tar Heels. He is known to own season tickets to both the Panthers and Hornets, and attend almost every game.[22]

During his free time, VanDerwerken likes to read, play golf or spend time on the lake.
