Joshua Hillborn Mire (born August, 14, 1990), better known as Josh Mire, is an American data scientist, entrepreneur, and humanitarian.[1]

Early life

Joshua Hillborn Mire was born on August 14, 1990 in Houston, Texas where he lived with his single mother, Kimberly Francis Mire, until the age of two.

Upon leaving Texas, Mire and his mother moved to Fort Lauderdale, Florida to live with his maternal grandmother, Kathryn Beatrice Hillborn Mire, who had a Ed.D. in early childhood education.[2]

While attending Congress Middle School, Mire took classes in web development, video production, graphic design, and desktop publishing. He eventually went on to become his school's web master.

Mire graduated from Park Vista Community High School in Lake Worth, Florida in 2008.

Education

Mire is a graduate of the University of Florida|University of Florida (UF) having earned a bachelor of science degree in agricultural economics|food and resource economics. During this time he studied trade policy and food production while abroad in Ireland, France, and the United Kingdom.

In 2016, he graduated with a master of science in economics from Florida Atlantic University|Florida Atlantic University (FAU). While at FAU, Mire worked as a teaching assistant for the economics department, an economics tutor, a student mentor for undergraduates on academic probation, and as the assistant program coordinator of the South Florida Center for Economic Education.

Upon graduating from FAU, Mire returned to UF to pursue a Ph.D. in food and resource economics. After completing one year of coursework, he decided to leave school in order to gain professional experience.

Career

Aquaponics

While earning his bachelor's Mire founded The Aquaponic Research Center (ARC), a non-profit dedicated to community development through sustainable farming practices.[3]

Politics and advocacy

In 2015, Mire was elected to FAU's student government where he served as a student legislator. Shortly after his election, Mire was named parliamentarian of the legislative branch.

In 2016, he was elected to UF's student government as a graduate senator.

In 2017, he helped found the Democratic Progressive Caucus of Palm Beach County (DPCPBC), Palm Beach County's chapter of the Democratic Progressive Caucus of Florida. He served as vice president of the DPCPBC from 2017-2019.

During Florida's 2018 state election cycle, Mire worked a precinct leader with the Democratic Executive Committee of Palm Beach County.

Institutional research

Since 2018, Mire has worked as a data scientist in the field of institutional research.

In 2020, he authored the officerWinTools package, a package of functions used for automating the export of branded PDF documents in a Windows environment through the execution of VBScript in the computer terminal|terminal.[4]
