Professor Ogbuagu Josephat Okechukwu, mni is a Lecturer in the department of Pure and Industrial Chemistry, Nnamdi Azikiwe University, Awka, Anambra State and currently the Governing Board Chairman, Anambra State Primary Health Care Development Agency, (ASPHCDA), He was appointed by the Anambra State Governor, Chief Dr. Willie Obiano on 19th September, 2019.[1][2]

He is happily married with Children.

Early life and education

Professor Ogbuagu Josephat Okechukwu was born to Chief & Mrs Raphael Okoye Ogbuagu of Umuowelle Village Agulu in Anaocha Local Government Area of Anambra State. He attended the Umuowelle Primary School, Agulu, (1971-1976), Bubendorf Memorial Grammar School (B.M.G.S.) Adazi, Anambra State (1976-1981) and the University of Nigeria Nsukka, UNN, (1981-1985) where he obtained a B.Sc (Hons), Pure and Industrial Chemistry. He further obtained an M.Sc. (Analytical Chemistry), UNN (1992) and a Ph.D in Industrial Chemistry, UNN (1999).

Career

From 1991 to 1993, he was a Research Fellow at the National Centre for Energy Research and Development of the University of Nigeria, Nsukka. with a parallel appointment as a lecturer in the Department, Pure and Industrial Chemistry of the same University. In 1994, he joined the Nnamdi Azikiwe University, NAU, Awka, as a teaching staff where he rose to the rank of Professor of Chemistry in 2006. A former Head of the Department of Production Technology and the pioneer Head of the Department of Polymer and Textile Engineering of the Nnamdi Azikiwe University, Awka. Prof. Ogbuagu had further served the University in several capacities.

Prof. J.O. Ogbuagu, mni. is a fellow of over twenty professional bodies including the Chemical Society of Nigeria (FCSN), Institute of Chartered Chemists of Nigeria, (FICCON), Nigerian Institute of Management, (FNIM), Nigerian Conservation Foundation (NCF), Solar Energy Society of Nigeria (FSESN), Polymer Institute of Nigeria, (FPIN), Nigerian Academy of Education, (FNAE), Nigerian Institute of Science Laboratory Technology, FNISLT), Fellow of the Institute of Public Analysts of Nigeria (IPAN) and has served the Institute in various capacities. Also a member of the Nigerian Institute of Industrial Statisticians and a chartered member of the Waste Management Society of Nigeria, WAMASON.

A member of several international professional bodies such as: New York Academy of Science, American Chemical Society. He is a recipient of the American Medal of Honour (2003) by the American Biographical Institute, and was also listed among the International Scientists of the Year (2003) and among the One thousand Great Scientists of the 21st Century by the International Biographical Centre, IBC, Cambridge, England; the Marquis of Who is Who in Science and Engineering and the Contemporary Who is Who of professionals.

Prof. J.O. Ogbuagu, mni is a Paul Harris Fellow of the Rotary International (PHF), a Justice of Peace (JP) in and for Anambra State, a registered teacher with the Teachers Registration Council of Nigeria (TRCN)[3] and further holds the Distinguished Service to the Chemical Society of Nigeria, dscs. Also a Knight of the Order of St Mulumba (KSM), is an accredited environmental consultant to the Federal Ministry of Environment Abuja, and the Ministry of Environment Awka, Anambra State.

Appointment as Governing Board Chairman, Anambra State Primary Health Care Development Agency

Anambra State Governor, Chief Dr. Willie Obiano on 19th September, 2019, appointed him the Governing Board Chairman, Anambra State Primary Health Care Development Agency, (ASPHCDA).[1][2]

Appointment as provost

In January 2010, he was appointed Provost, Federal College of Education (Technical), FCE(T), Umunze, Anambra State and served till January 2018. He was equally the Chairman, Committee of Federal Provosts of Colleges of Education in Nigeria, (2014-2018)[4][5] and member Governing Council of National Commission for Colleges of Education, NCCE, 2014-2018.

Awards and honours

Provost of the Year 2012 by the International Centre for Comparative Leadership for Africans and Blacks in Diaspora in collaboration with ACCOLADE Communications, Abuja, Award of Excellence in Transparency, Academic Excellence and Promotion of Staff Welfare by the Colleges of Education Academic Staff Union (COEASU)[6], FCE(T) Umunze, 2010. Others include: Distinguished Academic Excellence by the University of Nigeria Nsukka (UNN) Alumni Association, an Award of Excellence for Philanthropic Work, Youth/Students Empowerment and Humanitarian contribution to the Growth and Development of Education by the Students Union Government, Nnamdi Azikiwe University, Awka, Anambra State, Distinguished Leadership Award from Women in Colleges of Education (WICE) 2012, Courage in Character, Patriotism and Humanitarian Leadership Award by the Integrity International Magazine 2012, Nigerian Merit Gold Award for Productivity from Supreme Magazine, 2012, Most Outstanding Chief Executive of the Year in South/South, South/East by the National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS), 2014.

Prof J.O Ogbuagu holds the Henry Dunant Gold Merit Award for Service to Humanity from the Nigerian Red Cross Society, Anambra State, 2011, Pillar of Support Award by the Senior Staff Union of Colleges of Education (SSUCOEN), FCE(T) Umunze, 2011, Labour Friendly Provost by the South East zone of Colleges of Education Academic Staff Union (COEASU), Astute Administrator Award by the National Executive Council (NEC), Colleges of Education Academic Staff Union of Colleges of Education in Nigeria, (COEASU)[7], 2013 and many more.

He participated in several training and workshops/conferences in Nigeria and abroad, including the G-8 UNESCO World Forum on Education[27], Scientific Research and Innovation, Trieste, Italy (2007), the American Chemical Society National Meeting and Exposition on Nanoscience, Nanotechnology and Beyond, held in Boston, Massachusetts, USA (2018)[28].

He was part of the Nigerian team that went for Studies on Entrepreneurship Programmes for the Nation’s Colleges, in Aberdeen, Scotland (2015); study tour on Industrial Relations, Labour Productivity and National Development to London, United Kingdom and Algeria (2014). He was also part of the Nigerian scholars at the Transformational Leadership for Tertiary Institutions in Nigeria, Baltimore, Maryland USA (2013); ICT Technologies and Innovative Methods in Education in Nigeria, Dubai, United Arab Emirates (2012); Leadership and Management Skills for Senior Education Officers at the Management Developments Institute, MDIS, Singapore (2012); Tertiary Institutions Top Executives and Stakeholders Programme held in Puri Pujangga, Universiti, Kebangsaan, Malaysia (2011).

Prof Ogbuagu was among the few Nigerian experts who participated in the Technical and Vocational Education Training (TVET) and Human Resources Development (HRD) Workshop for Nigerian Experts held at the Korean Institute for Vocational Education and Training[29] (KRIVET) in South Korea (2010); Earth Systems Science Course in Watersheds and Coastal Zone Simulation, Trieste, Italy (2000).
