Joseph Jacobs (born January 03, 1980) is an American doctor of physical therapy, advanced clinical nutritionist, functional medicine practitioner, keynote speaker, and inventor. He is the founder of ASTR, an innovative treatment approach that aims at focusing on the root cause of the pain and several techniques associated with this treatment including Advanced Soft Tissue Release® (ASTR®), Tension Release TechniqueTM, ASTR Instruments I, II, III, IV, V, and VI (Patented), Fascia ScaleTM and others.[1][2]

Jacobs has over a decade’s experience in the medical field and has treated numerous clients from across the world including celebrities, politicians, and professional athletes. Jacobs specializes in the evaluation and treatment of soft tissue pain and impairment. Throughout his career, Jacobs has received approval for 8 patents, published several research studies, and addressed multiple talks.[3][4]

Early life and education

Jacobs was born on January 3, 1980 in Alexandria, Egypt.

Jacobs completed his B.A. on Individual Studies with a Concentration in Hotel and Restaurant Management in 2005 Fairleigh Dickinson University, Madison, NJ. Later in 2006, Jacobs went to pursue a degree in doctor of physical therapy at Fairleigh Dickinson University and then to Dominican College, New York.

Career

Jacobs started his career in 2006 as a personal fitness trainer at Club H Fitness in New Jersey. He worked for a year at this organization during which he developed unique fitness plans for individual gym members and designed weight loss, strength, and conditioning programs.[5][6]

Prior to joining the Centennial Medical Center, Jacobs offered personal training to a vast range of clients for almost four years. In 2011 he started working as a doctor of physical therapy at Centennial Medical Center. He worked for over a year at this center, during which he treated various orthopedic and neurological diagnoses apart from managing and developing treatment plans.[7]

In 2011, Jacobs developed Advanced Soft Tissue Release (ASTR) that has been registered by the US Patent and Trademark Office. It is a biopsychosocial treatment model for scar tissue, fascia restriction, trigger points, muscle spasms, ergonomics, gait, exercise, nutrition, inflammation, stress management, and behavior modification.[8]

In 2012, Jacobs joined La Paz Spine & Rehab and then a year later Mission Viejo High School. Throughout his career, Jacobs has treated numerous patients from across the world with temporomandibular joint (TMJ) disorder (Jaw Pain), headaches, muscle pain, joint pain, trigger points, scar tissue, myofascial restriction, and soft tissue adhesions. He has also received approval for 8 patents, published several research studies, and addressed multiple talks on the said topics.[9]

Jacobs is the inventor of multiple Techniques and instruments such as Advanced Soft Tissue Release® (ASTR®), Tension Release TechniqueTM, ASTR Instruments I, II, III, IV, V, and VI (Patented), Fascia ScaleTM, Fibrosis (Scar) ScaleTM, Trigger Point ScaleTM, Muscle Spasm ScaleTM, and BioPsycho Release (BPR)™.

Personal life

Jacobs is married to Lindsay, and they have twins named Gabriel and Lily. He enjoys playing guitar and piano and spending time with his dog, Luna. Jacobs is also passionate about hiking and currently lives in Kuna, Idaho. He is fluent in English and Arabic.

Jacobs is a cancer survivor and used to suffer from chronic migraines, headaches, fatigue, and pain.
