Jose Antonio Morales Medrano (born September 21, 1990) is a Mexican entrepreneur, boxing coach, gym owner, podcaster, and motivational speaker based in Sacramento, California. He is the founder and owner of Jose Morales Boxing Academy. He also hosts a podcast show named "The Jose Morales Podcast," through which he shares his knowledge and experience.[1]

Morales is often regarded as an experienced boxing coach who has fought over 60 boxing competitions as an amateur and has been working as a boxing coach since 2006.

Early life and education

Morales was born in Guadalajara, Jalisco, to a mother from Michoacan and a father from Jalisco. He was raised by a single mother who tried to make ends meet to provide for him and his older sister. Morales spent his first eleven months of life in Michoacán, Mexico, before relocating to Sacramento, California, United States.

At age 13, Morales’ family introduced him to boxing, which ignited his interest in sports. Morales was rejected from his first boxing tournament because he was not a citizen of the United States. Due to his financial hardships and lack of citizenship, Morales was a resentful and pitiful adolescent throughout his teenage years. He boxed as an amateur during his adolescence. Before breaking his hand in his early twenties, he had participated in sixty amateur boxing competitions.

Career

After being offered a job as a boxing coach at the age of 16, Morales opted to abandon his high school education. After three years as a boxing coach, Morales attempted to join the military as a boxing coach, but his citizenship prevented him from doing so. During the ensuing years, he held a variety of automotive occupations, including shop worker, basic repairs worker, and manager.[2]

With the formally announced Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA), Morales obtained a work visa in the United States. After receiving the work permit, he quickly found employment in a dealership's service department. He worked there for the next three years and earned a six-figure salary.

In 2015, Morales purchased a failed boxing gym in Sacramento, Roseville. He had previously worked at this gym when he was 16 years old, and with his experience in the sport and business acumen, Morales felt confident that he could turn it around. He reorganized the boxing gym and renamed it the Jose Morales Boxing Academy. Due to the approach he created, he was able to revitalize the struggling boxing facility. Morales’ boxing was genuine and centered on what makes boxing great. This increased the gym's earnings into the six-figure range and created employment opportunities. Multiple staff members earning over six figures and boxing success with numerous national champions prompted many boxing coaches to seek assistance and advice, starting Morales to begin coaching boxing club owners. Multiple boxers of varying ages have competed at amateur and professional levels during the past six years at the club. The gym also has many boxing enthusiasts who have discovered their enthusiasm for fitness.

Morales also hosts a podcast show titled "The Jose Morales Podcast," in which he imparts his experience through interviews with diverse local successful individuals. The show has 117 episodes and has been running since 2021 with great success. In addition to his podcast, Morales is enthusiastic about mentoring and inspiring youngsters and adolescents, using his challenges and setbacks to encourage and urge them to follow their aspirations. Through his own stories and those of his guests, Morales emphasizes the importance of positively impacting the community and life's accomplishments and mistakes.

Personal life

Morales is married to his wife and has two children, Alonso and Valentin Morales.
