Jordan Neely

Jordan Neely was a 30-year-old African American man living in New York. He acted as a Michael Jackson impersonator in subway stations and other public locations until about 2022. At around this time, several videos and a YouTube channel was founded to commemorate his impersonations, trying to revive Jordan Neely's performance art and encourage him to impersonate again. [1] He became homeless since 2022, contributing to his apparent disappearance. On May 2nd, 2023, Jordan Neely became involved with an incident on a subway train that lead to his death. After boarding the train, witnesses say he began ranting. One witness, Juan Alberto Vasquez, made the following statement during an interview that Tuesday:

After throwing his jacket to the ground, a straphanger approached from behind and began to chokehold Jordan Neely. Two other passengers assisted, with one holding down Jordan's arms so he could not attempt to break free. The straphanger, a 24-year-old Caucasian man, held Jordan in the chokehold for 15 minutes until the subway stopped at its next destination. When medical personnel arrived, they could not revive Jordan and he was declared dead before being hospitalized.[2]

His death became highly controversial after many articles published the incident seemingly in favor of the straphanger vigilante, despite the fact that nobody was physically harmed when altercations began.
