Jordan Day Reid (born 9th December 1989), better know by his Producer/Artist name JD. Reid, is a British music composer / producer / DJ born and raised in London, England,

JD. Reid is a Double-Platinum selling producer who has been critically acclaimed for his ability to produce music across varying genres - Electronic, Hip-Hop, R&B, Grime, Jazz, Indie and mainstream Popular Music. As a producer Reid has amassed more than 174m global streams. He is also the owner of Baby Gravy Records.

His solo releases have featured slowthai, Katy B, Ghetts, Kojey Radical, Novelist (musician), D Double E, Sinéad Harnett|Sinead Harnett, Mr Carmack, Oscar #World Peace, Mr. Mitch, Jevon and Hodgy (formally of Odd Future). As a songwriter and record producer, Reid has collaborated with Mabel (singer)|Mabel, Celeste (singer)|Celeste, slowthai, Skepta, Denzel Curry, Prodigy (rapper)|Prodigy, Dominic Fike, Biig Piig, Ms Banks, Henry Wu, Flohio, Fatima and Sasha Keable|Sasha Keeble.

Remix work includes songs by Jorja Smith, Giggs (rapper)|Giggs and Roska.

Early Life

Jordan Day Reid (JD.Reid) was born in North West London, UK on 9th December 1989 to a Sri Lankan/Irish Mother and a Jamaican/English Father.

JD. Reid’s Mother spent a large part of her career working in the Record industry and his Father was a percussionist, therefore music was a big part of his upbringing. JD. Reid ventured into making music at the age of 15.

JD. Reid went to school in North West London, where he also went on to attend college. He studied his degree in Music Technology at the University of Hertfordshire (from 2008) where he shared classes with Nana Rogues, Flux Pavilion and Hoskins.

Music Career

Following his departure from University in 2011, JD. Reid began to focus on starting a career as a music producer. His first music commission came from singer Bryan Adams for a film short Georgia May Jagger featuring the model herself.

JD. Reid's first production for other artists was for London Alternative Rap artists ‘Piff Gang’ and ItsNate. Reid’s artist debut was the self-released EP ‘Word Get’s Around’ (May 2012). This was followed in September 2013 by his second self-released EP, ‘88’..[1] At this time JD. Reid also made his debut as a DJ, at various London based Hip-Hop club nights.

As well as producing music, In 2012 JD. Reid also had a full time job at London’s Assault & Battery Studios, assisting renowned record producers Flood (producer)|Flood and Alan Moulder where he gained valuable studio and production experience.

In 2014, JD. Reid went on to work part-time at Rinse FM as a Radio producer|Radio Producer. Working with many DJ’s and artists he had admired for years was, as Reid described, ‘a real game changer’[2]. The Rinse FM DJ Plastician then released JD. Reid’s first EP on his Terrorhythm Recordings label on 7th April 2014, ‘Maneki Neko’. This was followed by the double A-side single ‘Amethyst’ on 20th January 2015.

Having heard these releases, the owner of Rinse FM, Geeneus, asked JD. Reid to work with Rinse artists Katy B and Sinéad Harnett|Sinead Harnett. He also gave JD. Reid his own monthly show on the radio station in which he introduced his listeners to music by both new and established producers within the Alternative Beats and Electronic genres.

On 8th April 2016 his first release on Rinse was the four track EP ‘io’ featuring Mr Carmack, Zilo and D Double E.

On 28th July 2017 his five-track EP ‘Calibrate' was released on Rinse, featuring slowthai[3], Novelist (musician)|Novelist[4][5], Oscar #Worldpeace, Kojey Radical[6], 808INK and Hodgy[7][8][9]. The EP was well received by the media with DJ Mag naming him as ‘one of the most exciting UK grime and Hip Hop producers’[10]

JD. Reid left his job at Rinse FM in 2017 and music then became a full-time career. Soon after he was signed by Bertelsmann Music Group|BMG Music Publishing on 21st December 2017.

In February 2018 came the first release on JD. Reid’s own label, Baby Gravy Records, the 15-track mixtape, ‘Tree’[11][12]. This album showcased the range of his production capabilities – from Hip-Hop to melodic R&B and Jazz. Featuring artists Mr Mitch, slowthai, Chloe Bodur, Fatima, Oscar #Worldpeace, Roses Gabor, 808Ink, Henry Wu, Jevon, Ghetts, Bossman Birdie[13], Drae Da Skimask, Katy B, Jvck James, Jay Prince, Jon 1st - the project was well received by the media with Mixmag hailing JD. Reid as ‘London’s Answer to Timbaland’[14].[15] [16]

In November 2020 Reid released his mixtape ‘North West’s Finest’ exclusively on Bandcamp. The mixtape featured Denzel Himself, Zilo, Ms Banks, Suspect and Biig Piig.[17] There was also a full length visual to accompany the release[18]. Resident Advisor’s review stated that ‘JD. Reid’s mixtapes have revealed him to be one of London’s most talented producers’[19].
