John Gossart is an American entrepreneur, musician, and former military officer. He has held various positions in the US military and government, most notably as Deputy Director for Counterterrorism Policy at the US Department of Defense. He co-founded the fintech startup GoodWorld and founded the indie rock band StoneDriver.[1]

Education

Gossart graduated from DeMatha Catholic High School. He obtained a Bachelor of Arts in Political Science from Boston College in 1992 and a Master's in Public Policy and Economics from Georgetown University in 2002.

Career

Gossart has spent 22 years in the US military and government, undertaking assignments across diverse locations spanning Africa, Pakistan, Yemen, Afghanistan, Iraq, Asia, and Europe. He began his career in 2002, as an assistant professor of social sciences at the United States Military Academy at West Point. In 2011, he joined the United States Department of Defense as the Deputy Director for Counterterrorism Policy.

Gossart is an adjunct professor of public policy at Georgetown University.

In 2015, Gossart co-founded GoodWorld, where he serves as the Chief Operating Officer. GoodWorld is a fintech start-up that transforms philanthropy through financial technology. Headquartered in Washington, D.C., it is renowned for its ESG (environmental, social, and governance) and social impact platforms catering to businesses and nonprofits. GoodWorld has been recognized as one of Fast Company’s Most Innovative Companies and D.C.'s Best Technology Startup. Before GoodWorld, Gossart co-founded the smart city tech startup RideScout, which was later acquired by Daimler-Mercedes in 2015.

Gossart is also known for his music. In 2014, he established the indie rock band StoneDriver. The band has released several singles and albums, including their second studio album, "Chasing Demons." In 2018, StoneDriver was named City Paper's Best DC Band.

Gossart has also performed as a solo artist, playing popular covers and indie originals at various venues. He has performed at renowned stages in the DMV area, including the 9:30 Club, Black Cat, Union Stage, DC9, Metro Stage, and Rock and Roll Hotel.
