John G. Iannarelli (born April 10, 1963) is an American speaker, retired FBI Special Agent[1], terrorism expert[2], and author of multiple books including Disorderly Conduct[3]. He is the founder of the JI Consulting Group, a consulting firm based in Scottsdale, Arizona[4][5].

Early Life and Education

Iannarelli was born on April 10, 1963, in Fair Lawn, New Jersey. He attended Fair Lawn High School. In 1985, he graduated from Montclair State University with BA degree in Communications. In 1985, Iannarelli graduated with a Juris Doctor degree from the University of San Diego School of Law.[6]

Of Italian descent, Iannarelli is the youngest of four children of Jean and Anthony Iannarelli. His siblings are Susan Iannarelli, Anthony Iannarelli, and Janine Iannarelli.

Career

Iannarelli relocated to Southern California in 1987, where he served as an officer with the San Diego Police Department. Iannarelli spent 20 years with the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) and was selected to become a Special Agent[7].

Iannarelli participated in the domestic terrorism investigation of the Oklahoma City Bombing and served as an operator for the division’s SWAT team[7][8]. He also worked on the September 11, 2001 terrorism investigation[9][10] and was on-scene for the response and subsequent investigation of the shooting of Congresswoman Gabriel Giffords.[11] Among his FBI assignments, Iannarelli served in Washington, D.C. as the FBI National Spokesperson and then on the executive staff of the FBI Cyber Division[7].

Iannarelli retired from the FBI in 2015. During his time with the FBI, Iannarelli received the FBI Director’s Distinguished Service Award[7]. In 2017, Iannarelli covered the 2017 Las Vegas shooting at Mandalay Bay for several national news outlets including FOX and NPR [2][12]. Iannarelli also worked as an investigator for the National Football League. [13].[14]

In 2015, Iannarelli established the JI Consulting Group[5][4].

Iannarelli is a professional speaker and consultant known as "FBI John"[7]. He speaks and consults on cybersecurity, active shooter preparedness and response, terrorism prevention, leadership and ethics[2][15][16][17]. He has worked with numerous Fortune 500 companies, the United Nations and the Vatican, where he has personally met with Pope Francis[7]. He has contributed on active shooter preparedness for The New York Times[18] and The Wall Street Journal,[19]. He has spoken on cybersecurity for Forbes[20][15]

Iannarelli is the father of Garrett Anthony Iannarelli, a former U.S. Army Infantry Soldier who served in Afghanistan and now a writer in Los Angeles, and Samantha Rae Iannarelli, who has several graduate Psychology degrees and works in counseling.
