Jimmy Sandhu (born January 3, 1997) is a Punjabi-Canadian professional boxer. His fraternal twin, Janu Sandhu, is also a professional boxer.
On February 25th, 2022, Jimmy made his professional boxing debut fighting against Juan de la Rosa Achiote on a fight card featuring five fights in Cuernavaca, Morelos.[1] Both Jimmy and his brother secured TKO victories in each of their respective four-round bouts.[2]
Personal life
Jimmy was born in Mississauga, Ontario, and grew up in Brampton, Ontario. In an interview with CBC News, Jimmy explains how his mother enrolled him and his brother in boxing as a means of losing weight, however, within a few sessions they both had developed a true passion for the sport.[3] The twins had a very successful promotional campaign for the debut fight. In addition to being featured on CBC News and Omni Television, their story was also shared on MSN News.[4] As their significance grew, they were featured on the largest billboard in Toronto on top of the Eaton Centre, and it was re-shared on 6ixBuzz, which is one of the largest Toronto-focused online news platforms.[5]
Amateur career
Jimmy has 22 amateur bouts under his record, consisting of 19 wins and 3 losses. Jimmy fought as an amateur in the finals of the national amateur championship for International Boxing Association (amateur) in 2015 and won a silver medal representing Canada.[6]
Professional career
On February 25th, 2022, both Jimmy and his brother Janu made their professional boxing debut. According to a live interview they did with Omni Television, they are the first Punjabi twins in history to become professional fighters.[7]
