Jimmy Mistry (born 12 June 1971) is an Indian entrepreneur designer, real-estate developer, hotelier, and philanthropist. He is the Chairman and Managing Director of Della Group. Mistry is known for designing interiors for Star TV, Rustomjee, Zee TV, Sahara, MTV, Vodafone and others. Under the Della Group, Mistry operates 5 business verticals which include Della Resorts, Della Adventure Park, Della Villas, Della Adventure Training Academy (D.A.T.A) and Della by Jimmy Mistry.

Early life

Mistry was born in 1971, in Ahmadabad, India in a middle-class parsi family. His father, Rusi Mistry was working with Sarabhai Chemicals and his mother, Lily Mistry ran her own beauty salon from home. Mistry pursued a diploma in mechanical engineering before dropping out in the final year. He began his design career with contracting jobs and executing projects quite early when he was just 19. He gained peak interest in interior designing and architecture while collaborating with an Italian design firm, with whom he was an import partner.

Career

Mistry began his career setting up “Mistry Pest Control”, a pest control company in 1991. He soon moved to interior contracting with "The Design Centre”. In 1995 Mistry setup “Tecnica Office Systems Pvt. Ltd”, and started manufacturing modular office furniture in Nagpur, India. In 1996 India’s first Italian furniture showroom was set up, displaying residential and office furniture. In the same year Tecnica Office Systems held the first Italian furniture exhibition in Mumbai, India that showcased 27 Italian design companies. By 1998, Tecnica office solutions had showrooms in Delhi, Pune, Bangalore, Hyderabad, Chennai and Dubai. In the year 1999 Tecnica Office Systems was renamed Della Tecnica Office Systems Pvt. Ltd. Star TV was Mistry’ first turnkey interior client, thereafter he focused more on the interior design business. Mistry ventured into the architectural design in 2003, with his first project being the Star TV News building in Mumbai, India. The firm ventured into the real-estate business in 2005 building Della Towers, a Persian architectural landmark in Mumbai. In 2008 Della Enclave Pvt. Ltd was set up, venturing into luxury villas. Della Adventure Park was set up in 2009, followed in 2010 with a Camp Della Resorts, a 30-room glamping resort. In 2013 Mistry went on to set up a 117-room luxury resort in Lonavala, India. By 2020 Garden Villa Resort with 270 rooms.

In 2017, Mistry set up India's first counter-terrorism training academy for civilians (individuals and corporates) Della DATA. In the same year, the organization started construction and setting up a 50,000 square feet store for home, office, and interior supplies.

Mistry founded Della Tecnica to focus on the architecture and interior design in the infrastructure of India.  He started the company with just two employees on board which soon turned into one of the leading architectural firms in India. The group employs more than 2000 employees currently.

Turnkey Interior Design

From 2000, Jimmy Mistry has designed several award-winning projects that helped his company to become India’s largest back end integrated design and built a company. His clientele includes some Industry giants like Rustomjee, Zee TV, Sahara, MTV, Star TV, Bajaj Auto, HDFC Bank, and others.

Mistry is a strong advocate for using selected materials that are environment-friendly to build his designs.

Adventure, Resorts, and Banquets

While working closely with corporates, Mistry found an opportunity to build a hospitality service for corporates and individuals. This led him to build Della Adventure and Resorts, equipped with modern amenities.

Della Resorts

Mistry founded Della Resorts, India’s largest extreme adventure luxury resort comprising of Luxury Resort, Camp Della, Adventure Resort, Villa’s, Della Suites, The Presidential Suite and a multi-cuisine restaurant. Mistry focused on basics with Café 24, 24-hour amenities including restaurants, spa, gym, salon and swimming pool, as well as a convenience store.

Della Adventure Park: Mistry has an interest in adventures, he realized that India lacked an adventure park and wanted to build a modern adventure park better than any other theme or amusement park. He started building Della Adventure Park, which claims to be India's largest extreme adventure park with over 70 activities and 5-star luxury amenities.

Della Villas: Mistry created Della Villas, a range of luxury villas with democratic designs. Della Villas houses the largest number of amenities in a luxurious second home development more than any other in India.

Della Adventure Training Academy (D.A.T.A)

India’s first private counter-terrorism training academy for corporates and families. D.A.T.A is India’s first military-style finishing school for youth. It works with the individuals for the country. With the finest ex-Special Forces of the Indian Army on its side, D.A.T.A aims at training individuals with survival techniques for any adverse situation. The military-themed glamping resort was commemorated by Jimmy Mistry as a tribute to every innocent life lost during the attacks of 26/11 in Mumbai.

Della by Jimmy Mistry: Della by Jimmy Mistry is an upcoming project that is claimed to be India’s largest high-end luxury interior product supply, manufacturing and trading company for home, offices and hotels.

Philanthropy

Mistry works for the upliftment and empowerment of the Parsi community. In 2006, he formed a Parsi Resource Group to bring together like-minded Parsi Youth and encourage them to serve the community, support religious priest (Dasturji’s). Mistry has donated a fully-equipped ambulance service for the Parsi Community. Mistry has won Urban Heritage Award in restoring the Rustom FramnaAgiary in Dadar Parsi Colony, Mumbai, which caters to a colony of 10,000 Parsis. He has also set up a Dadgah Sahebat at Della Tower, Dadar, Mumbai which is holy to the Parsis. Mistry attributes this philanthropy to his parents who taught him, “to give something back to the community and country.”  Mistry has also won the election and became the youngest Trustee for 7 years at BPP (A 300 Year old public charitable trust).

Della Z.P. School, Kunegaon, Lonavala

For the betterment of youth and with the aim of providing the necessary education, the Parsi Resource Group (PRG) under Mistry established an exclusive mentorship program through Kunegaon School in Lonavala. Individuals who would like to participate in the program can sponsor a child’s education. The children are educated and mentored with skills that will equip them to go out in the real world and seek employment once they complete their education.

Personal life

Jimmy Mistry has been an ardent bike fanatic and adventure freak. Mistry owns Ducati, Kawasaki Ninja, and Hummer. He has also been a national level skater and a motocross bike rider. He holds strong views about designing and places extra emphasis on democratic designs. Mistry currently resides at his Della Tower residence at Parsi Colony in Dadar, Mumbai. He is an avid animal supporter, and has dogs and horses.
