Jherrod Thomas (born August 29, 1988) is an American robotics engineer and functional safety and cyber security expert based in Atlanta, Georgia. He is the founder and CEO of Tomco Service Group, an engineering service firm.[1][2]

Combining his skills with wealth building, Thomas proclaimed the status of a millionaire working a 9 to 5 job at 32.[3] He trains, coaches, and mentors young African American engineers to develop and pursue leadership opportunities within their companies and enhance their financial literacy.

Early life and education

Thomas was born in Germany in a military family. Throughout his childhood, he’s lived in amazing places such as Georgia, Alaska, Kansas, and Mississippi. Thomas was interested in automobiles at a young age and constructed a go-kart in his teenage years. In high school, one of Thomas' teachers recommended the book Rich Dad Poor Dad, which significantly motivated him to pursue wealth creation.

Thomas graduated with a bachelor's degree in electro-mechanical engineering from Alcorn State University in 2011. He enrolled at Kennesaw State University to obtain a master's degree in intelligent robotics systems. Thomas graduated from Lanier Technical College with an associate of science degree in motorsports vehicle technology.[4]

In addition, Thomas also holds various licenses and certifications in functional, system, and machinery safety issued by TUV Nord, Ford Motors, General Motors, Exida, Omnex Inc, and US Army.

Career

Thomas has more than a decade of experience working with many safety-critical platforms and designing safety into products using safety standards such as IEC 61508 & 61511, DO 178, SAE J3061, JSSSH, SOTIF, ISO 26262, MIL-STD 882E, and others. He is recognized for influencing the architecture design at the system level, driving requirements at the hardware & software level, and providing senior leaders with realistic, cost-effective solutions. As a functional safety and systems engineer, Thomas has worked for various organizations, including General Motors, AM General LLC, FCA Fiat Chrysler, and Ford Motor Company.[5]

In 2016, Thomas founded Tomco Service Group, an engineering services company specializing in developing and implementing breakthrough technology for robotic and autonomous systems. Tomco offers a range of cyber security, technology, and functional safety services, including functional safety compliance support, cyber security Support, test case development, safety-critical architecture development & testing, and various others. Tomco has worked with multiple top-tier clients, including Harley Davidson, Allegro Micro, NURO, WABCO, Leonardo DRS, TuSimple, and Fisker Karma.[6]

Alongside his corporate career, Thomas invested in the literature on wealth creation, investment, financial literacy, and engineering. He has attained the rank of a millionaire by combining his current abilities with his understanding of money creation. Using his earnings to invest in the stock market, Thomas presented several inventive strategies to enhance and quadruple his income. He now coaches, trains, and mentors young African American engineers. He intends to assist young engineers in honing their interview skills, obtaining sales and negotiating advice, enhancing their financial literacy, and becoming more competitive in pursuing leadership positions within their respective organizations.[7]

Thomas is also a member of the Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity Inc, which is one of the oldest African American intercollegiate fraternity.[8]
