Biography

Jessie Mercay was born in 1945, rural New York, to farmer Lorance Mercay and teacher Jessie David and John Jardine|Jardine Patty Mercay. She left home at the age of 14, after her mother died, beginning a life-long spiritual search which eventually brought her to V. Ganapati Sthapati and the teachings of the Rishi Mamuni Mayan.[3] Her first contact with the Indian tradition was reading the Bhagavad Gita when she was 23, and since then studied and practiced Indian philosophy and spirituality in a variety of forms.[4] In the 1970s and 1980s she was a student of Maharishi Mahesh Yogi, and his life and teachings influencing her in many ways.[5] Mercay was trained as a meditation teacher by Maharishi Mahesh Yogi and went on to teach Transcendental Meditation for several years.[6] In the 1990s she became interested in Vāstu, and in 2004 met V. Ganapati Sthapati.[7] She studied for many years under his guidance, mostly on a one-on-one basis, visiting India several months at a time each year, and touring temples and sacred sites with him. Acknowledging the need for a successor to teach Vāstu in an undiluted and systematised way worldwide, in 2006 V. Ganapati Sthapati gave Mercay the mandate to establish an institution, curriculum and academic program. V. Ganapati Sthapati gave Mercay the name “Maya”[8], and appointed her as Chancellor and Professor of the American University of Mayonic Science and Technology.[9] The first class took place in on July 22nd 2006 in New Mexico.[10] Since then Mercay has taught Mayonic Science and Technology full-time while also building Vāstu-compliant homes around the world, and making textual contributions and publications based on what she learnt from V. Ganapati Sthapati and her own independent study of the Mayonic tradition.[11]

Work

Before establishing the American University of Mayonic Science and Technology, for twenty-five years Mercay worked as a clinician in natural medicine and psychotherapy. During that time, she developed a number of different healing methodologies. Prior to that she worked as a college professor in several different Universities within the United States, jobs that involved developing curriculums and teaching in the fields of creativity, media, humanities, and visual studies. Alongside her professional work as a teacher and a clinician, she also developed and taught numerous self-help seminars throughout the United States which included self-improvement, meditation, yoga, shamanism, and a variety of healing modalities. During the 1980’s Mercay was employed as a business consultant for various companies to introduce methods for team building and personal growth. In the 1970’s Mercay owned a multi-media production company that produced film, video, and multimedia specifically for businesses and schools. For seven years, Mercay served as an officer in the US Army. She was responsible for personnel management and job allocation. She also established guidelines for the US Army testing program and developed methods of the dissemination of materials for training purposes.[12]

Education

Mercay's university degress include a BA (Sociology and Social Work), an MA (Communications and Multimedia), a Doctorate in Naturopathic Medicine, and a PhD. Her PhD was in the field of Psychological and Quantitative foundations, specializing in Visual Studies (visual anthropology, creativity, and human cognition), Curriculum Development, and Instructional Design. Her published thesis is titled Visualizer –Verbalizer Cognitive Styles.[13] . In addition, Mercay was awarded an honorary Doctorate in Mayonic Science and Technology for her published thesis which is titled Fabric of The Universe: The Origins, Implications, and Applications of Vastu Science.[14]

Awards

During her service in the Army Mercay received numerous awards.[15] In 2006 V. Ganapati Sthapati awarded Mercay a PhDmst in Vāstu Science. In January 2017 Mercay was ceremonially recognised by the 'Dr. V. Ganapati Sthapati Research Foundation' in India as Vāstu Ratna, meaning “jewel of Vāstu”, a title never before conferred to a Westerner.[16]

Buildings

Mercay began building structures as a child while living on her father’s dairy farm in NY, USA. She continued her interest in building throughout her life, and for more than forty years she did home renovation, additions and remodelling. She formed a company in 1990’s for buying and remodelling houses for resale. This eventually developed into a method of remodelling that involved Vāstu rectification. After further study with V. Ganapati Sthapati she then began to build complete Vāstu-compliant residences.[17] She has designed and built several Vāstu-compliant buildings throughout the world, in the US, Europe, Brazil, Canada, and India.
