Jessica Bishop is an American wedding expert, podcast host, author, blogger, and entrepreneur. She is widely recognized as the founder of The Budget Savvy Bride, a leading online resource that provides couples with advice, inspiration, and practical resources for planning affordable weddings.[1] With over 20 years of experience in the wedding industry, Bishop has developed extensive knowledge and expertise in all aspects of wedding planning.[2][3][4]

She is the author of the book, “The Budget-Savvy Wedding Planner & Organizer,” which has sold over 225,000 copies on platforms like eBay and Amazon.[5] Bishop also co-hosts The Bouquet Toss, a wedding planning podcast.[6] Her expertise as The Budget Wedding Expert has been featured in various prestigious outlets, including Good Morning America, Brides, Glamour, Cosmopolitan, The Huffington Post, and Refinery 29.[7][8]

Education

Bishop was born on January 28, 1984, in California, United States. She exhibited a profound interest in art and writing from an early age, crafting numerous poems and stories during her childhood. After graduating from Oakland High School in 2002, she continued to explore her artistic inclinations through her involvement in the girl scouts, craft projects, and dance classes. It was during her high school years, while contributing to the yearbook staff, that she discovered her talent for layout and design.

Bishop enrolled in the University of Tennessee, Knoxville, where she received a bachelor's degree in graphic design and journalism. During her time in college, she demonstrated a keen interest in the magazine industry and actively engaged with a variety of publications.

Career

After completing her bachelor’s, Bishop began her career in the wedding industry by working for a marketing company that produced regional wedding magazines and bridal shows in the southern region. She gained experience as a graphic designer for companies such as Jacob Marketing and Randall House Publications.[9]

Over the years, Bishop has held various roles within the wedding industry, including working at a wedding cake bakery, an event catering service, wedding coordination, day-of setup and styling, and assisting wedding photographers. She even launched her own wedding invitation business.[10]

Bishop established The Budget Savvy Bride as a blog in 2008 while planning her own $10,000 wedding.[11] The blog gained immense popularity and has since become a highly visited wedding planning resource website, serving millions of users annually.[12][13]

The Budget-Savvy Bride offers a wealth of information and advice for couples seeking beautiful weddings on a budget.[14] One notable feature is the inclusion of detailed breakdowns of wedding expenses shared by real couples.[15] This allows visitors to browse weddings based on their budget, providing valuable guidance for those with limited financial resources.[16] The website also includes a Wedding Deals section featuring a coupon site for wedding items, a buying and selling marketplace, printable wedding invitations, and shopping roundups for popular wedding items.[17]

Bishop's expertise as The Budget Wedding Expert has garnered significant attention from various media outlets, including Good Morning America, Brides, Glamour, Cosmopolitan, The Huffington Post, Refinery 29, and more.[18][19]

She is a published author best known for writing "The Budget-Savvy Wedding Planner & Organiser," which has sold over 225,000 copies and is well-liked by both couples and wedding planners.[20] The book offers comprehensive guidance and organization tools to ensure a memorable and well-planned wedding, regardless of the budget.[21][22]

Furthermore, Bishop collaborated on "The Budget-Savvy Honeymoon," a guide that explores travel hacking techniques for achieving a dream honeymoon at a minimal cost.[23][24][25]

In December 2020, Bishop joined forces with Sari Weinerman to create The Bouquet Toss: Wedding Planning Podcast.[26][27] This podcast explores the origins and history of various wedding customs, shedding light on their darker and outdated aspects.[28] It also provides suggestions on how couples can personalize these traditions to make them more meaningful and authentic to their own relationships.[29]
