Jenny Grant Rankin (born as Jenny Alexandra Grant on March 28, 1972 in Laguna Beach, California) is an American educational researcher and author. She is known for her work in improving data presentation, parenting, and career development. She received an Honorary Doctor of Humane Letters from University of La Verne in 2019.

Early life and education

Rankin was born as Jenny Alexandra Grant on March 28, 1972 in Laguna Beach, California as the daughter of Donald Alexander Grant and Nancy Stickley Grant.[1] Her degrees include a Bachelor of Arts from University of California, Santa Barbara (UCSB) and a Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.) from Northcentral University in 2013.[2]

Career

Rankin's graduate work was on over-the-counter data standards.[3][4][5] She has worked in higher education, secondary education, and as Executive officer|chief education & research officer (CERO) and lectured at places like University of Cambridge, England.[6]

She now serves as a coordinator for Mensa International|Mensa,[7][8] is a public speaker, and a columnist for Psychology Today.[9] Rankin serves as a Fulbright Specialist in the United States' Department of State and in this role she has talked about the possibility of COVID-19 outbreaks in Los Angeles with the BBC News.[10] In the popular media, she has been quoted talking about multiple aspects of parenting, including her examples of positive parenting,[11] financial considerations with parenting,[12] and how parents can be overbearing.[13][14] At the 2019 Comic-con meeting, she participated in a panel that considers futuristic ideas with her particular focus on the environment depicted in Ready Player One.[15]

In 2019 Rankin received an Honorary Doctorate of Humane Letters from University of La Verne.[19]

Personal life

Rankin lives in Laguna Beach, California.[20] She first interacted with her husband Lane on Facebook and they eloped a year later.[21]
