Jean-Sélim Abdelmoula (born 1991) is a Swiss pianist and composer.[1]

Life and Career

Abdelmoula was born in Rolle, Switzerland.[2] He studied piano at the Haute Ecole de Musique de Lausanne|HEMU Lausanne with Christian Favre, and at Guildhall School of Music and Drama|Guildhall School of Music & Drama with Ronan O'Hora, as well as composition with Julian Anderson. During 2014-15 he held the Rebanks Family Piano Fellowship at the Glenn Gould School in Toronto.[3] From 2018 to 2021, Abdelmoula was one of two pianists studying with András Schiff at the Kronberg Academy.[4]

Abdelmoula has performed as a soloist in venues like Zurich’s Tonhalle, Palau de la Música in Barcelona, Koerner Hall in Toronto, Carnegie Hall in New York and the Royal Festival Hall, Barbican Hall and Wigmore Hall in London.[5]

His compositions are performed by musicians including Heinz Holliger, Antje Weithaas, and Patricia Kopatchinskaja, and ensembles like the Orchestre de Chambre de Toulouse, Swiss Chamber Soloists, Camerata Bern, Zürcher Kammerorchester, Sine Nomine Quartet and the Ensemble Séquence.[6]

He is the recipient of awards in both piano and composition, including the Guildhall Wigmore Recital Prize and the Lili Boulanger Memorial Fund Award.
