Jaydon Lewis (born March 3, 2001) is a South African DJ, songwriter, and record producer based in Cape Town, South Africa. He is best known for his bootleg remixes of the iPhone Ringtone and Yeah Yeah Yeahs “Heads Will Roll”, which have amassed over 100 million plays on YouTube and SoundCloud, and his inventive sound that blends elements of trap, house, Afropop and soul.[1][2][3] Since he first appeared on YouTube, he’s released records on Lowly, Ultra, PRMD, Columbia Records, Astralwerks, and Pluus.

Career

Early career

By the age of 7, Jaydon had begun experimenting and producing on FL Studio and by 14 he was releasing bootleg remixes and original productions on YouTube and SoundCloud.[4] It was his remix of “Ride” by Twenty One Pilots that first shined a light on his prodigious talent when it achieved millions of views in just over a year.[5][6] These bootlegs would go on to garnered over 100 million views and build a sizeable following all before he was old enough to drive.[7][8][4][9]

2017 to present

His debut single “Save You” was released June 2017 by Trap Nation’s label, Lowly, where it went on to accumulate over 3 Million Spotify streams.[10] Jaydon closed out 2017 with the remix of No Method’s “Let Me Go” on Ultra Music.[11][12]

2018 would bring the announcement that Jaydon signed to PRM

D.[13] He would go on to release two records, “Rise” and “Runaway” on the label started by Avicii and Ash Pournouri.[4][14][15] Released in February 2018, "Rise" would be Jaydon’s first record to receive airplay on South African radio stations Good Hope FM, KFM, and 5FM. Runaway, released on October 5th, 2018, would be his first record to garner top 5 South African radio charting on Good Hope FM. To close out 2018, Jaydon released a bootleg remix of Sheck Wes’s Hot 100 Charting “Mo Bamba”. Billboard would call it the best remix of “Mo Bamba”.[16]

Jaydon kicked off 2019 by gaining recognition as an emerging artist by streaming service Audiomack and EDM.com who called him an artist to watch in 2019.[17] Further recognition came in the form of an invite to Red Bull Studios and an artist spotlight from the brand.[18]

2019 would bring two remixes from Jaydon. On April 19, he released the remix of Young Bombs “Starry Eyes” on Astralwerks.[19] A week later on April 26, He released the remix of Ruth B.’s “Rare” on Columbia Records. [20][21][22]

2020 would be begin with the release of “different” on January 20.[23] It would be Jaydon’s first release on the bedroom collective, a collective label cofounded by Jaydon. On April 23, Jaydon would release “good company” on Gush Cloud’s Pluus.[24] The record features South African Idol Winner Paxton.[25] It would go on to be a radio success in South Africa garnering chart placements on KFM (#3), Jacaranda FM (#5), and GOOD HOPE FM.[26][27][28] The song would also be featured on SABC 3's Expresso, South Africa’s premiere morning TV Show.
