Dr. Janna Joethy is a Singaporean plastic surgeon renowned for his expertise in both aesthetic and reconstructive surgery.[1] Currently serving as the Medical Director and Senior Consultant Plastic Surgeon at Nassim Plastic Surgery,[2] he is best known for his work in breast surgery, liposuction, microsurgery, and burn-related procedures. Dr. Joethy's extensive surgical skills have established his reputation as a notable figure in the field of aesthetics and plastic surgery.[3]

Beyond his clinical practice, Dr. Joethy actively contributes to medical research and education, authoring numerous papers and mentoring aspiring medical students. He is a sought-after speaker at both local and international conferences, sharing his expertise and insights, thus advancing the field's knowledge and techniques. Early life and education

Dr. Joethy was born and raised in Singapore, where he received his early education at the Anglo-Chinese School and later attended the Rugby School. He then pursued his medical education at University College London where he obtained his MBBS. Subsequently, he became a member of the Royal College of Surgeons (MRCS) and went on to do research in wound healing where he received an MSc in Surgical Sciences. Dr. Joethy spent several years working in London, delving into research on wound healing with a specific focus on scars and keloid tissue.

He continued his career in Plastic Surgery with the Singapore General Hospital and is the only Singaporean to received a Ministry of Health scholarship to Brazil. Whilst in Brazil, he had further exposure to microsurgery and aesthetic surgery.

Career

Dr. Joethy is a senior consultant plastic surgeon and the medical director at Nassim Plastic Surgery, with expertise in aesthetic and reconstructive surgery. His professional career encompasses a wide range of surgical cases, including aesthetic enhancements, microsurgical procedures, and burn-related surgeries.[6]

As an accredited plastic surgeon by the Ministry of Health, Dr. Joethy offers various aesthetic procedures, such as facelifts (via surgery, thread lifts, or fillers), breast augmentation, breast reduction, buccal fat removal, body contouring surgery, mummy makeovers, and fat transfer procedures. He also routinely performs surgical treatment for hair loss.[7]

In the field of reconstructive surgery, Dr. Joethy is actively involved in managing cases involving skin cancers and reconstructing defects arising from breast cancer treatments. He employs microsurgical techniques for specific cases to achieve optimal results.[8]

Prior to his current role, Dr. Joethy served as a senior consultant plastic surgeon in the Department of Plastic, Reconstructive, and Aesthetic Surgery at the Singapore General Hospital. During this tenure, he performed various surgical procedures, including facial surgery, body contouring, liposuction, breast augmentation, and breast reduction. In 2013, whilst at the Singapore General Hospital, he was admitted as a Fellow of the Academy of Singapore.

Dr. Joethy has contributed to the medical field through publications in peer-reviewed journals and presentations at local and international conferences. Notably, he has over 20 publications to his credit on topics relating to plastic, cosmetic, aesthetic, and reconstructive surgery, scar tissue, wound healing, and burns. He holds the position of Clinical Assistant Professor at Duke-NUS Medical School, where he engages in research activities.

Dr. Joethy is also a sought-after speaker at conferences, sharing his knowledge in the field of aesthetic and reconstructive surgery. He also provides training to fellow medical professionals on filler injection techniques.

Dr. Joethy holds various professional appointments and committee memberships in plastic surgery and related disciplines. These include his membership in the International Society of Aesthetic Plastic Surgery since 2019, committee roles in the Association for Burns Injuries and the Asia Pacific Burns Congress in Singapore (2018–2019), and membership in the Society of Transplantation since 2017. He is also a member of the Wound Healing Society of Singapore (since 2016), the Singapore Association of Plastic Surgeons, and the Academy of Medicine in Singapore (since 2015).

Humanitarian work
