Janet Susan R. Nepales is a journalist and author based in Los Angeles and the first Filipina member of The Hollywood Foreign Press Association.[1][2] During 2017-2019, she was elected the first Filipina Executive Secretary of the HFPA and then in 2019-2021, she was the HFPA's first Filipina Treasurer.[3] For 3 years, she was the Executive Producer of the 75th-77th Golden Globe Awards.[3] She contributed as an editor to "Hollywood Foreign Press Association: A History, 75 Years of the Golden Globe Awards" book, which was the HFPA's 75th anniversary commemorative program book.[3]

Her weekly column on GMA News Online is called "Hollywood Insider." [4] She wrote for the "Hollywood Bulletin," which was the entertainment part of Manila Bulletin.[5] She regularly writes columns for Manila Up and Exquisite Magazine monthly.[4]

Early Life

Janet attended Quezon City High School in the Philippines and was valedictorian of her class.[6] She majored in Bachelor of Arts in Journalism at University of Santo Tomas with cum laude honors.[7] She is the wife of journalist Ruben V. Nepales. [8]

Books

In 2021, Janet published her book called “FASHION. Filipino. Hollywood. The World, ” produced by Queen-B Multi-Media Productions, and the book promoted Filipino fashion designer talents in Hollywood.[9] It featured quotes from her interviews with celebrities along with their photos.[10]

The first Filipina Women's Network book called "Disrupt: Filipina Women: Proud. Loud. Leading Without A Doubt." was co-authored by Janet.[11]

Awards

  • In 2012, she received the 100 Most Influential Filipino American Woman in the United States Award from The Filipina Women's Network.[12]
  • In 2013, she was awarded the 100 Most Influential Filipino Women in the World" by the Filipina Women's Network.[13]
  • In 2016, she won 3rd place in the Ninth Annual National Arts & Entertainment Journalism Awards which is hosted by Los Angeles Press Club's for her article called "Jennifer Garner on her life and its miracles" that was posted in her Hollywood Bulletin column.[14]
  • In 2019, she was nominated for Outstanding Variety Special as Executive Producer for The 76th Annual Golden Globe Awards.[15]
  • In 2020, she won second place for her article called "Understanding Jordan Peele and 'Us'" in the Entertainment News Feature category at the Los Angeles Press Club.[13]
  • In 2022, she won third place for her article called "Oliver Stone Recalls Filming in PH in New Memoir" at the Los Angeles Press Club’s 14th National Arts & Entertainment Journalism Awards.[16]
