Jacob Heremaia (born 13 December 1999) is an Australian politician currently serving as a Councillor for Division 8 of Logan City, Queensland.[1] Heremaia is the youngest councillor in the history of Queensland.[2][3]

Early life

Born in Auckland, New Zealand, Heremaia moved to Queensland at a young age. He is a graduate of Citipointe Christian College in Carindale, near Brisbane.

Political career

Heremaia has stated he disagrees with councillors being affiliated to political parties, but has admitted to formerly being a member of the Liberal National Party of Queensland.

Councillor for Division 8 of Logan City Council (2020–present)

Heremaia ran as an Independent politician|independent candidate for Division 8 of Logan City electorate in the Queensland 2020 Local Government Elections.[4]

On 28 March 2020, the Electoral Commission of Queensland duly elected Heremaia as Councillor of Division 8 of Logan City.[5]

Procurement and Appropriations Special Committee (2020–present)

On 8 June 2020, the Procurement and Appropriations Special Committee was endorsed and established by the Director of Organisational Services of the Logan City Council.[7]

On 29 July 2020, Heremaia was appointed as the first Chairperson of the Procurement and Appropriations Special Committee.[8]
