Ja'Quan Lavender (born September 7, 1995) is an African-American track and field athlete and philanthropist. He gained recognition by participating in the USA Rookie Camp to train for the Winter Olympics for the skeleton team.[1][2]

Ja’Quan serves as the founder and CEO of the Ja’Quan Foundation, a non-profit organization focused on empowering youth. He is the founder and CEO of The Prudent Man Leadership Academy, an institution offering training and education to develop teenagers into future community leaders.[3]

Ja’Quan has created a documentary series titled "The Journey to Gold," in which he chronicles his training for the summer and Winter Olympics.[4]

Early life and education

Ja’Quan was born and raised in Steubenville, Ohio, by his parents, Renita and Lorenzo Lavender. After completing his education at Steubenville High School, he obtained a bachelor’s in sports management from Tiffin University. He also attended the Harvard Business School online.

Since a young age, he has played various sports. During high school, he was recognized as one of Ohio's top 400-meter runners.

Career

Athletic career

Ja’Quan began his Olympic career in 2019, participating in track and field events at the Olympic level. In 2020, he attended the USA Team Rookie Camp in Park City, Utah, where he underwent winter Olympic training for the skeleton event.[5]

Documentary Series: "The Journey to Gold"

Ja’Quan has created a documentary series titled "The Journey to Gold." The series documents the training regimen and his commitment to participate in the summer and Winter Olympics. The episodes are released on his YouTube channel.[6]

Community Service

Ja’Quan established the Ja’Quan Lavender Foundation: The Journey to Gold (Great Opportunities Lift Dreams), a 501(c)3 non-profit organization. The organization offers mentorship and educational guidance for middle and high school students. It supports at-risk and underserved adolescents and adults to pursue and realize their aspirations.[7]

Ja’Quan is also the founder and chief executive officer of The Prudent Man Leadership Academy, an educational program designed to build future community leaders. The academy provides a sixteen-week leadership development program for youths aged 12 to 18. The program employs a comprehensive strategy to engage, educate, and mold young males into prospective community leaders. By focusing on mental health and well-being, the program cultivates future community leaders, fosters self-awareness, and strengthens character.[8]
