Jermaine Nadval Young (born 2 September 1983), popularly known by his stage name JDiamondz or Jay, is a American-Jamaican rapper based in New York City.[1] He has been regarded as one of the most influential up-and-coming hip hop artists in the city, best known for his notable singles - Gully So Gully, Doll House, Ride or Die, Welcome 2 the Bronx, and others. JDiamondz is currently managed by Bsp entertainment and he is also a brand ambassador for a number of start-up brands.[2]

JDiamondz has notably contributed to creating a versatile music production environment gaining recognition for his eclectic style. Since his debut in the music industry, JDiamondz has worked on several featured projects with multiple prolific names including Dreamdoll, Melle Mel, Spice, Fred the Godson,[3] and Future Fambo to name a few.

Early life and education

JDiamondz was born on September 2, 1983, in the South Bronx to Jamaican immigrant parents, Desrene Reynolds Medston Young. He grew up with two siblings in a Jamaican neighborhood that was vastly influenced by hip-hop culture. JDiamondz grew up loving dancehall music and was deeply affected by the hip-hop movement. Soon he began writing raps over hip hop instrumentals and further indulging in music. He later completed his high school education from Evander Childs.

Career

JDiamondz began his career in 2014, initially as a local performer touring alongside Mavado, Gullyside Wethebest Music reggae star across the states. A year later, he released his debut single titled Gully So Gully featuring Mavado. The music video for this song had a Jamaican classic "Shottas" movie-themed shooting directed by Latin Grammy-nominated director Sergio Parra. Gully So Gully's video became an instant hit garnering over a million views on worldstarhiphop.com. In that same year, JDiamondz was featured in XXl magazine's 20th-anniversary issue alongside hip hop's biggest stars.[4]

In 2018, JDiamondz opened for huge celebrity artists like Flo-Rida and then for reggae legend Buju Banton on his sold-out "Long Walk to Freedom" tour in Antigua, cementing his status as a top-tier independent underground talent to be reckoned with.

In 2021 JDiamondz was featured on Hot 97's "Who's Next" platform to perform at their iconic "Summer Jam concert. As of 2022, he is managed by Bsp entertainment and has become a brand ambassador for a number of brands like True Legacy Vodka, Entrepreneur Pak, Splash Drip H2o, and others. In his career, JDiamondz has also recorded songs with industry giants like Dreamdoll, Safaree Samuels, grammy-nominated dancehall queen artist Spice, Fred the Godson, Chris Rivers, Grammy Lifetime Achievement Award recipient Melle Mel, Kwaw Kese,[5] Future Fambo & many others.

JDiamondz is the father of Jonmere Young, Su'jaesha Young, Camaine Young, Jayla Young, and J'Anna Young.
