István Virágvölgyi (Budapest, Hungary, April 4, 1982 –) Hungarian photo editor, curator. Currently he is curator at the Robert Capa Center for Contemporary Photography.[1] (Budapest, Hungary), secretary of the Capa Grand Prize Hungary[2], and editor of the Weekly Fortepan blog[3]

Studies

He studied freehand drawing, desktop publishing, photography and earned a master’s degree from library and information studies at Eötvös Loránd University in 2009. In 2013, he spent a semester as a visiting fellow at the Reuters Institute for the Study of Journalism at University of Oxford.[4]

Career

He worked for the leading Hungarian news website Origo from 2007 to 2011, first as photo editor and later as the head of photography. He then led the photo desk of MTI Hungarian News Agency from 2011 to 2014.[5][6] From 2014 to 2019, he lectured about photojournalism and photo editing at the Budapest Metropolitan University (formerly Budapest College of Communication and Business).[7] He has been curator of the Capa Center and secretary of the Capa Grand Prize Hungary since 2014[8][9], and editor of the Weekly Fortepan blog since 2020.[10][11] He has been the member of numerous jury panles and regularly attends international portfolio reviews as a photography expert.
