Hirohaku Yoshinari(吉成 洋拍, Yoshinari Hirohaku, October 23, 1971-May 12, 2021) was a owner of restaurant and beauty salon and a board member of Team Fukushima in Fukushima. He is from Fukushima Prefecture. People affectionately called him “Hug-chan.”

Biography

Hirohaku Yoshinari was a business owner. In addition, he also held some events and engaged in supportive activities.

At the time of 2011 Tōhoku earthquake and tsunami, he and friends served hot meals to disaster victims and deepened bonds with local residents.

After that, he had engaged in activities boosting relations between Fukushima and all prefectures in Japan as one of the board members of Team Fukushima. In 2021, he passed away.

Social activities

He was engaged in the Fukushima Sunflower Foster-Parent Project (福島ひまわり里親プロジェクト, Fukushima Himawari Satooya Project) that is reconstruction support activity for the Great East Japan Earthquake). The participants have cumulatively been more than 550,000 people in all prefectures[1].

He thought that he should change Fukushima which is thought of as a city of pity into the kindest (otagaisama) city in the world.

In 2017, he opened a restaurant, “Breath Pizza” in Fukushima City to realize a place that people with disabilities can work with enthusiasm. The restaurant devised a system that develop their strong point[2].

In 2018, “Breath Pizza” was reopened and renamed “BLT cafe.” The restaurants introduced a system, “Pay it forward” that is a pay-in-advance system for someone that is not oneself[3].

In October 2020, he opened “BLT children cafeteria” with the theme of spending time with family. The place serves packed lunch and food stuff for households with children once a month. A typical children cafeteria in Japan offers foods for only children, however, "BLT children cafeteria” serve foods for all the family members. The reason is that when parents are hungry, their children are not happy even if they are full.

In February 2021, he opened “minnnano shokuryoko.” (community fridge) A fridge and a shelf are set up in front of “BLT cafe.”

After his death, “Hug’s Blood Donation Campaign” was held with Fukushima Prefecture Red Cross Blood Center in April 2022. Pre-packaged curries were donated for children’s cafeteria in Fukushima depending on the number of participants. During his lifetime, when he had a surgery, a lot of blood was needed. That is why the campaign was held[4]
