Hinojar de Cervera[1][2] is a village located in the Municipalities of Spain|municipality of Santo Domingo de Silos, province of Burgos, Castile and León, Spain.
Toponymy
The name of this village seems to come from the large number of Fennel (in Spanish: hinojo) that grow in the zone.
The first known written document dates back to May 1222 when Rodrigo de Pedro and Muño de Fernando, natives of Fenoiar, acted at witnesses of the purchase of an estate by Ordoño del Castillo in Espinosa de Cervera. Another document dated 1338 mentions that the people of Henoiar paid 16 and a half Almud|almudes as a tithe to the Abbey of Santo Domingo de Silos. A few years later, in 1346, it appears in another manuscript that the Fenojar animals can now graze throughout the Tabladillo Valley.
However, it is not until 1460 when the village appears with its current spelling. In that document it is said that the Roman Catholic Diocese of Osma-Soria|Bishop of Osma hands over the parish of Hinojar.[3]
