Henry Calix (born 28 September 1987) is an American entrepreneur best known as the founder of Weedsies, one of the fastest growing online marketplaces in the CBD,[1] Hemp and Cannabis industry.[2] For creating this unique marketplace, Calix was included in CEO Weekly's Top 20 CEOs of 2020 list, as well as Forbes Magazine's 100 Year Celebration 2021 Print Edition, and Business Elite’s 2022 40 under 40 award.[3]
Calix is credited with transforming the cannabis industry by combining all three sectors and making them available on a single internet platform.[4] Apart from that, he also runs a string of companies including Calix Fashion, Perspective Podcast, and Calix Online Financial among other investment ventures.[5]
Education
Calix was born on 28 September 1987 in Honduras. He moved to the United States at the age of 12, graduated High School in 2006 from North Miami Senior High. Later studied in Miami Dade College and was a Business Administration and Management major. Dropped out of college in his second year to start his first business venture in 2008, Calix Grants Consulting.
Career
Calix began his entrepreneurial career in 2008 when he founded Calix Grants Consulting which he ran for over two years, providing grant and program development consulting to nonprofit organizations.[6][7] In 2013 he became the VP of retail operations for Sudsies Dry Cleaner and built an innovative training platform for CSRs, delivery personnel, and managers in the drycleaning industry.[8] Calix worked for seven years on this venture as he taught himself how to code.[9]
Calix founded Weedsies, an online marketplace dedicated solely to the CBD Hemp and Cannabis industries, in 2017.[10] This business venture intends to promote local businesses by allowing them to sell their products and reach a larger audience. Weedsies, after its launch on 04/20/2020 as an online marketplace, is quickly expanding into mobile deliveries with the launch of Weedsies Mobile on 04/20/2021 and Weedsies age verifying vending machines on 2022.[11] Weedsies has received several multimillion dollar evaluations with the latest one being over 57 million dollars as a technology company alone not including the offline mobile ventures.[12][13]
