George Goguadze (Georgian: გიორგი გოგუაძე) (born March 20, 1973) is a Georgian banker and a politician. He has been the Chief Executive Officer and a founder of the JSC People's Bank of Georgia (now known as Liberty Bank (Georgia) from 2003-2008. In 2008 he joined the Parliament of Georgia as the elected majoritarian of the District of Isani. In 2017 George Goguadze earned his Ph.D. in Economics from St.Andrew First-Called University.
Career Overview
Goguadze graduated from Tbilisi State University in 1995 with a degree in international relations. In 1996-1999 George Goguadze was the Chief Specialist of the Finance-Budgeting Committee of the Parliament of Georgia. During those years Goguadze was also a Deputy Chairman of the Supervisory Board at Industria Bank. In 2000-2002 Goguadze was Director of Agro-Industrial Bank and in 2002 he was selected as the director of the JSC People's Bank of Georgia. In 2003 he became the CEO of the People's Bank. In 2009, Goguadze was elected by the District of Isani as a majoritarian and, thus, he has become the Member of the Parliament. [1]
CEO at JSC People's Bank
The People's Bank of Georgia had the largest customer service network in Georgia. Under the leadership of George Goguadze, the Bank opened 210 branches across the country. As Goguadze's strategy was to establish extensive coverage around the country, the Bank was able to win a state tender for the rights of issuance of pensions and other social benefits. At the end of 2008 which was the last year of Goguadze's executive operation at the JSC People's Bank, the Bank had 1.5 million clients which represent about 30% of entire Georgia's population.[2]
In order to increase the employment of the students in the banking sphere across the country, in 2007 George Goguadze signed a memorandum with the Batumi University. The memorandum called for the employment of the best students of business of the Batumi State University by the JSC People's Bank. [3]
Member of the Parliament
In 2008 George Goguadze was elected as the majoritarian by the District of Isani. Under his governance as a majoritarian at Isani District, Goguadze founded Isani Development Fund with an aim to provide aid to the population of the district, the refugees and the IDPs from the occupied regions.[5]
