George Gilliam Steele Sr. (April 1, 1798 - October 21, 1855) l was a prominent architect in Huntsville, Alabama.[1] He designed several major buildings in the city. Several were demolished in the 1960s as city leaders sought to modernize and accomodate aerospace industry.

He was born in Bedford County, Virginia. He married Eliza Ann Weaver (1808-1891) and had eight children.[2]

It is not clesr whether he or his architect son Matthew designed thr Mrs. Robinson House.[3] Another son, Col. Jno. Steele was an officer innthe Confederate Army and a railroad engineer.

He is buried in Maple Hill Cemetery.[2]
