Geof Bartz (born December 3, 1943) is an award-winning American documentary Film editing, producer, and educator.[1][2][3]

Career

Bartz has edited or supervised the editing of more than 100 non-fiction films, among them the classic documentaries Pumping Iron and Stripper (film).[4][5]

He has edited four Academy Awards: King Gimp, Big Mama (film), Crisis Hotline: Veterans Press 1 and A Girl in the River: The Price of Forgiveness. Three other movies he cut received Academy Awards nominations: Lenny Bruce: Swear to Tell the Truth, Poster Girl (film), and Prison Terminal: The Last Days of Private Jack Hall. He has also won four Emmy Award.[6][7]

Bartz is a member of the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences[8] and American Cinema Editors(ACE).[9]

He has been the Supervising Editor for HBO Documentary Films since 1998.[10][11]

Personal life and education

Bartz grew up in Detroit, MI. He attended the University of Notre Dame where he majored in biology before discovering film.[12][13] After graduating, he went to Columbia University where he received an M.F.A. in film and would eventually become an adjunct professor.[14]

He lives on Manhattan's Upper West Side and in East Hampton, NY with his wife, Lynn Sullivan.[15] Their daughter Juliet Bartz is a journalist at Axios (website).[16]
