Gary Forrest (born 1968) is a British serial entrepreneur, financial expert, and investor. He is the founder and chairman of The High Street Group (HSG), a leading real-estate umbrella conglomerate comprising High Street Residential, High Street Hospitality, and All Saints Construction as its subsidiaries.[1]

Forrest specializes in financial services, investments, and real estate industries. He has over three decades of experience working in the construction business and is regarded for his work throughout the industry. Throughout his diversified career, Forrest has worked with a number of high-profile clientele and is known to build close professional relationships with them. He was also involved in the establishment of Newcastle’s tallest building.[2]

Early life and education

Forrest was born in Singapore in 1968 to Lee and Ronald. His mother belongs to Byers Green and his father is from Liverpool. Forrest’s father was a member of the Royal Air Force. He grew up in North East England and later moved to Hong Kong.

Forrest attended Whitworth Park Academy, formerly known as the Spennymoor Comprehensive, from 1980 to 1986. While at the school, Forrest participated in several extracurricular activities such as football and boxing. Forrest left school when he was 16 years old.

Career

Forrest started his career when he was 18 years old. He initially began working with his father at the Allied Dunbar Finance Group. Soon, Forrest became the company’s youngest financial advisor.

In 1995, Forrest founded High Street Home Loans (HSHL), a specialist mortgage lender. Under his leadership, HSHL grew from £100 million to £1 billion in a span of five years. Forrest sold the business to GMAC-RFC in 2003 and continued to serve as director for HSHL and GMAC-RFC until 2007.

Forrest founded the The High Street Group (HSG) in 2006. HSG deals in the Private Rental, Property Development, Construction, and Hospitality sectors. HSG was initially launched as a financial management and investment group but soon became a larger entity dealing in vast property areas. It was created with the aim to support communities in every aspect, including construction, rental, and management.[3]

In 2013, Forrest founded All Saints Construction (ASC) and High Street Residential (HSR) as subsidiaries of HSG. In 2016, he added a third branch, High Street Hospitality, which specializes in renovating underperforming properties.

As of 2021, High Street GRP is valued at £1.5 billion and is expected to reach £3 billion by 2023.

Forrest, during his career, also served as manager for Coxhoe Athletic, Shildon, and West Auckland. He is the owner of the MTK Boxing Gym in Newcastle. Apart from that, Forrest is also frequently involved in community charity work.

Under Forrest’s leadership, The High Street Group has received numerous accolades such as the Scottish Home Awards, Insider Property Awards (North East), M&A Awards, and International Property Award.[4]

Personal life

Gary Forrest was married to Alison Taylor, and they had two daughters named Natalie and Chloe. In 2008, Forrest married Hazel Beardsmore, and they have two children as well named Katie and Lucie.
