Freya Thakral is a British change-maker, entrepreneur and public speaker who is known for creating the Recycler and Curiousify apps. She was awarded the Diana Award in 2020[1] and the British Citizen Youth Award in 2021.[2]

Freya was born in Ealing, United Kingdom to teacher Sunny Thakral and fashion designer Preet Kaur. She has a younger brother, Ash. She currently lives and studies in Bangkok, Thailand and studies at Brighton College Bangkok.[3] She is actively involved with mental health and wellbeing[4] campaigns, reducing poverty and is an advocate for entrepreneurship[5] and empowering women[6].[7]

Freya is an alumni of The British School, New Delhi,[8] where she first started her Recycler project. Observing the plight of Delhi’s rag picking community and the lack of viable recycling options for the growing middle class in the city, she developed an app that offered door to door recycling pickups. She developed an infrastructure that employed some of the most underprivileged and utilised their skillset to collect and recycle plastic waste from households.[9]

Freya was part of the first all-girls team to represent India at the F1 in Schools World Finals, Team Blaze and helped them qualify for the event at the Indian National Finals in 2020.[6]
