Nana Kwame Bediako, also known as Freedom Jacob Caesar, is an entrepreneur, industrialist[1], real estate mogul[2] and philanthropist. He is the founder and CEO of Kwarleyz Group[3], where he oversees multiple interdependent specialty companies which focus on the development and construction of residential, commercial, and industrial real estate, infrastructure, smart cities, as well as financial investment and property management in West Africa[4].
Life and Career
Bediako was born in Kumasi, Ghana He attended Accra Academy and later Apam Senior High School[5]. He then went on to Waltham Forest College[6], in the UK for his Business Studies. Upon his return to Ghana in 2001, he founded Wonda World Entertainment[7], an artist management business that worked with rappers like Scientific (rapper). This foray into the entertainment industry led to an opportunity to own a nightclub in Accra named Temptations.
Wonda World
After a few years of working in the nightclub industry, Bediako went on to explore opportunities in the real estate business, with a focus on renting out units. As the business started to grow, he decided to build his own properties. He started Wonda World Estates.[8] and built a series of unique buildings in high-end neighborhoods in Accra. The earlier buildings by Wonda World Estates[9] were easily identifiable from the style of their roofs. Looking for a way to stand out from the rest of the buildings, Bediako chose a curved roof shape that was similar to the logo of fashion brand, Evisu. The success of his real estate projects led to the construction of Avenue Lincoln[10].
Petrona City
In 2013, Bediako announced his proposal for a 2000-acre city development project which aimed to provide the first fully integrated business hub for West Africa’s Oil, Gas, and Mining Industry.[11] In 2020, he indicated that the project was pivoting to become an industrial park that will host Africa’s first privately owned petrochemical cluster. Construction of Petronia City began in 2022[12]. It is located 8 kilometers from Takoradi in the Western Region of Ghana.
No. 1 Oxford Street
In 2016, Bediako announced his intention to purchase and develop a piece of land on Accra’s most popular street, Oxford Street, to build his first commercial property: a hotel[13]. The hotel would be named after its iconic address of No. 1 Oxford Street. The hotel was officially opened to the public in December 2019[14].
Kwarleyz Residence
In 2018, Bediako opened the doors to Kwarleyz Residences, a 40-unit luxury residential hotel apartment & suites in the Airport Residential area of Accra[15]. This project was named after his mother, Madam Elizabeth Adjei, popularly known as Auntie Kwarley[16]. He also consolidated all his businesses into a conglomerate named the Kwarleyz Group[17].
Personal Life
Nana Kwame Bediako married his wife Ruby Bediako when he was 19 years old[18]. The couple has 4 sons.
Philanthropy
In March 2020, in the early days of the Covid-19 pandemic, Bediako donated groceries to families that were affected by the nationwide lockdown mandate. In September 2020, he donated a fully furnished 2-bedroom apartment to a 95-year-old World War 2 veteran, Private Joseph Hammond.[19]
In August 2021, media personality Nana Aba Anamoah announced that Bediako had donated a 5-bedroom house to a set of conjoined twins she was raising funds for[20][21]
