Evan Fisher is an American freelance expert, capital-raising coach, entrepreneur, and investor.[1] He is known for his contributions to the freelancing space and is the highest-earning freelancer on Upwork. Fisher is the founder and CEO of Unicorn Capital, an investor pitch and capital raise company. He is also the founder of Freelance MVP, a YouTube channel aimed at educating freelancers.[2]
Fisher has contributed articles to major publications like TechCrunch and Inc. and has helped numerous clients raise substantial capital from top venture capital firms.
Early life and education
Fisher was born and raised in the United States. He studied the Italian and Chinese languages at the University of Urbino Carlo Bo and East China Normal University, respectively. In 2009, Fisher graduated with a dual degree in finance and international business from Villanova University.
Career
After graduating, Fisher started working at Barons Financial Services, an investment bank in Geneva, Switzerland. During his six-year tenure at the bank, Fisher became an expert at business plan writing. He wrote business plans and pitch decks and helped clients attract investors.[3]
In 2015, Fisher joined SIS Digital as a senior vice president for corporate strategy. At SIS Digital, Fisher was the head of the company’s European expansion and sales strategy and helped the company raise capital.[4]
In 2017, Fisher faced an unexpected job loss, which led him turn to freelancing on Upwork. He is one of the highest-earning freelancers globally, amassing over $2 million in earnings. He attained the highest status on Upwork, known as Expert Vetted, and received recognition as the highest-earning freelancer by annual earnings on the platform.
Fisher has been featured in Upwork's Letter to Shareholders and the Times Square advertisement on IPO day.[5] He has been featured in major publications like Forbes and Business Insider. He is also mentioned in Elaine Pofeldt's book, Tiny Business, Big Money. Fisher co-hosted the Upwork Expert Talk with the highest attendance.
In 2018, Fisher established Unicorn Capital,[6] a business-plan writing and capital-raising advisory firm based in Atlanta, Georgia. The company has helped founders raise over $5 billion from leading venture capital firms such as Andreessen Horowitz and SoftBank. Fisher is also a capital raise coach, offering one-on-one sessions and a Pitch Deck Accelerator course for founders and potential entrepreneurs.
Fisher also runs a YouTube channel, Freelance MVP. The platform aims to educate freelancers on ways and strategies to succeed in the gig economy. Through his channel, Fisher shares insights and advice for freelancers about profile strategies, cover letters, and Upwork profiles. He is also a managing partner at Minimal Capital, a limited partner at Stomp Capital, and an investor in Eterneva and Place.
Fisher is also a columnist at TechCrunch and Inc. Magazine, contributing articles on venture capital and fundraising.
Personal life
Fisher resides in Atlanta, Georgia, with his wife and daughter.
