Ellise Mariana Gitas,[1] better known by her stage name Ellise, is an American singer-songwriter based in Los Angeles. She debuted in 2016 with the single "Dominoes" and released her debut studio album Chaotic in 2021.
Early life
Ellise Gitas was born on September 10, 1998, in Danville, California.[2] Her mother, Luna, immigrated to the United States alone from Iraq when she was 15 years old,[3][4] for which Ellise admires her.[5] She grew up with her brother, Geno Gitas, who is also a singer.[6][7] She moved out at 17 years old after graduating high school early and moved to Los Angeles to pursue her music career.[5]
Career
Ellise signed to the label Grange Records in 2016. She released the single "Dominoes" on June 28, but the song was removed from streaming services after she left the label in 2018. Since 2018, she has released music under her own label, Hell Bent Heaven Sent. During this time, she released 2 EPs and 4 singles.
In 2021 Ellise signed to the label Empire Distribution and released her first studio album Chaotic on May 14 of the same year.[8] The album's release was preceded by three singles.
Influences
Ellise cites Ariana Grande, Lorde, Lana Del Rey, Frank Ocean, The Neighbourhood, Tove Lo, Billie Eilish and Camila Cabello as influences.[9] The album she mentions making her want to make her own music was Pure Heroine by Lorde.[10] Her career idol was Selena Gomez, with Ellise describing her as "being herself and not letting anyone sway her in different directions".[11]
