Career

Zahos began her career in finance journalism in 1997 as head researcher of Nine Network show Money (Australian TV program)|Money[3], a financial and investment program hosted by Paul Clitheroe.

She helped establish Money magazine in 1999 off the back of the series[4].

In 2009, Zahos presented the Nine Network television series Money for Jam (TV series). It also featured Paul Clitheroe and Nine Network personalities Shelley Craft and Shane Crawford as presenters.

In 2016, as Money magazine editor, Effie partnered with the Association of Superannuation Funds of Australia (ASFA) to launch Super Booster Day[5], a campaign encouraging Australians to make additional superannuation contributions in preparation for retirement.

Zahos left her position as editor of Money magazine in 2019[6]. This followed the publication’s sale from Bauer Media to financial services information company Rainmaker Group[7]. She stayed at Bauer as a finance editor, commentator and financial literacy campaigner[8].

In August 2019, she became Editor-at-Large of Canstar, a financial comparison site[9]. She launched the 8-Week Money Makeover with Effie Zahos money challenge[10].

In 2021, Canstar announced the launch of its podcast series, Real Money with Effie Zahos, which Zahos hosts[11].

She is currently Nine Network’s Today (Australian TV program) program’s money expert, where she presents a finance segment in the morning.

She is an advocate for financial literacy[12] and sits on the board of directors at Ecstra, a not-for-profit organisation that builds the financial wellbeing of Australians[13]. She is also a director of InvestSMART[14].
