Early life and education

Eddie Castillo was born in Los Angeles and later moved to Dallas, Texas, at the age of 12 with his family. Raised by a single mother who worked hard to provide better opportunities for him and his siblings, Castillo developed an early fascination with media placements and commercials.[4]

He eagerly awaited watching commercials during major events like the Super Bowl even as a child. He arrived early to the movie theater to catch the latest movie trailers and during car rides, he was captivated by roadside billboards. All of these early experiences sparked an interest in him that would later guide his work.[5]

At the age of 10, Castillo discovered his love for creating content by using his family's new VHS video camera. He recorded improvised comedy skits with his siblings and experimented with various creative techniques, even using pre-recorded family tapes that were off-limits to him. When his mother discovered what he had been doing, she punished him by making him perform various household chores for weeks to pay off the cost of the video cassettes.

Despite the consequences, this early experience fueled Castillo's passion for media and set him on a path to explore the art of storytelling through the visual medium. He credits his mother's disciplinary actions with teaching him the importance of responsibility and accountability, which have been essential traits in his career as a media marketer. Castillo's mindset of responsibility and accountability has distinguished him in the industry, and he has delivered exceptional results to clients while staying within their budget.

Career

Castillo's career began as a freelancer in the commercial printing industry, where he primarily served major liquor distributors. His work with ITC CUTTING EDGE in Dallas featured campaigns for client's including Patron, Virus Vodka, and Jameson.[6]

It was during this time that he recognized the challenges that businesses face when searching for new service providers. To address this issue, Castillo and his co-founder developed a Service-as-a-Product (SaaP) model that simplified the selection process for businesses by providing a clear understanding of the media services offered, enabling them to make an informed decision with just a few clicks.[7]

In 2017, Castillo co-founded Altered State Productions, a Las Vegas-based digital marketing agency. As the company's media director, he oversees a team that provides a diverse range of services, including branding, art design, email marketing, video production, distribution, retailing, e-commerce, immersive commerce, digital marketing, SEO, advertising, and affiliate marketing. Their clients span various industries, from startups to Fortune 500 companies, with a focus on expert service areas in Dallas, Los Angeles, Las Vegas, and New York. Castillo's approach to growing a marketing agency prioritizes SEO over social media.

Castillo collaborated with other department heads to devise comprehensive marketing plans that incorporated emerging technologies and industry trends to achieve stakeholder objectives.
