Dr. Rishi Verma (born February 12, 1990) is a prominent Indian serial entrepreneur and a certified gemologist known for his involvement in various business ventures and his expertise in the field of gems and jewelry. He comes from a family with a long-standing tradition in the jewelry business and serves as the director of Fateh Chand Bansi Lal Jewellers, a well-established jewelry brand.[1] In 2023, Dr. Verma received ET Inspiring Leaders award for Excellence in Retail Business Management.
Dr. Verma is the founder of three thriving ventures. These include Neesh Perfumes,[2] an esteemed perfume house renowned for its haute fragrances; Mandala, a brand specializing in energized crystal accessories; and EKYAM Sattvic Kitchen, an upscale restaurant dedicated to offering nourishing and light cuisine.[3]
Dr. Verma shares his knowledge and expertise through his YouTube channel, GemRishi. With his diverse business portfolio and commitment to sharing knowledge, Dr. Verma has made a significant impact in the world of entrepreneurship, gems, and jewelry.
Early life and education
Dr. Verma was born in Ambala, Haryana, and grew up in a family deeply rooted in the jewelry business. He completed his schooling at PML SD Public School in Chandigarh, followed by a bachelor's degree in business administration with a focus on finance and economics from the University of Technology Sydney. Later he did honors in marketing from University of Bradford.
In 2012, Dr. Verma enrolled at SP Jain College in Mumbai, where he pursued a Master's degree in Business Administration. He also holds a Ph.D. from Sabarmati University, Ahmedabad. Dr. Verma attended Gemological Institute of America and has completed "Colored Stone Essentials" and "Diamond Essentials" certifications.[4]
Career
After completing his Master's in Business Administration at S.P. Jain College, Mumbai, Dr. Verma joined his family business, Fateh Chand Bansi Lal Jewellers, and utilized his contemporary knowledge to transform it from a regular jewelry shop into an acclaimed, multi-boutique jewelry brand. By leveraging his acquired expertise, he propelled the brand into the digital realm, establishing a strong online presence across various platforms.[5]
With a vision to educate the Indian market about often-overlooked jewelry purchasing practices, Dr. Verma turned the 120-year-old jewelry business into a recognized brand. This resulted in rapid growth and expansion. Under his leadership, Fateh Chand Bansi Lal Jewellers earned accolades such as the 'Coolest Jewellery Store of North India' award at the Couture India Award Show, held on September 29, 2018, at The Taj Palace, New Delhi. Furthermore, he accepted the Zee Business Award for "Most Unique Jewellery Collection of 2021" on behalf of Fateh Chand Bansi Lal Jewellers.
Dr. Verma, alongside his family business, has successfully established three additional ventures, including Neesh Perfumes. Founded in 2014, Neesh Perfumes has gained international recognition as a high-end perfume house. It offers a range of exquisite fragrances known for their unique and captivating scents. As of 2022, Neesh has become one of the most renowned direct-to-consumer perfume brands globally, with distribution in various countries such as the UAE, the USA, the UK, Singapore, Malaysia, and Europe.
Dr. Verma's other venture, Mandala, founded in October 2021, is a unique crystal accessories brand that combines the healing properties of crystals with modern designs. As a certified gemologist, Dr. Verma carefully handpicks crystals known for their vibrational frequencies and real-life effects and incorporates them into wearables designed to serve specific purposes in people's lives. Mandala is the only brand to offer a 30-day, no-questions-asked refund policy for its energized crystal accessories, which are guaranteed to have real-life effects.
In July 2022, Dr. Verma founded EKYAM Sattvic Kitchen, a fine dining restaurant that serves healthy, balanced, and nutritious food based on Ayurvedic principles. He was inspired to create the restaurant after experiencing the positive effects of the Sattvic diet during a meditation retreat. He noticed a lack of clean, healthy, and tasty food options when he returned home, which led him to establish EKYAM. The restaurant offers affordable and delicious food, and for every plate sold, EKYAM donates a plate of food to someone in need.
Beyond his entrepreneurial ventures, Dr. Verma extends his knowledge and philanthropy through his YouTube channel, GemRishi. Launched in 2020, the channel focuses on educating viewers about gems and jewelry while also supporting the education of underprivileged children through its earnings. The growing popularity of the channel led to the realization that many people had experienced fraudulent practices in the gemstone market. To address this issue, Dr. Verma created GemRishi, India's first marketplace for gemstones. The platform enables certified and carefully selected vendors to showcase and sell authentic, certified, and reasonably priced gemstones to consumers. All profits generated by GemRishi contribute to the education of underprivileged children.
Personal life
Dr. Verma resides in Ambala, Haryana, India. He is a spiritual person who practices Osho, art of living, vipassana meditation, and follows Scientology. In his free time, he enjoys playing golf and trekking.
Additionally, he has been a lifetime member of the Shri Sanatan Dharam Education Board since March 2023.
