Dr. Omar Marar is a colon and rectal surgeon and educator at Central Michigan University Health in Saginaw, Michigan.[1]
Education and Career
Marar received his Doctor of Medicine degree at the Royal College of Surgeons in Ireland.[2] He completed residency at St. Barnabas Medical Center.[3] He also completed a Colorectal Surgery Fellowship at the Sidney Kimmel Medical College at Thomas Jefferson University Hospital.[4]
Dr. Marar holds board certifications in general surgery and colon and rectal surgery and holds medical licenses in Michigan and Pennsylvania. His research in surgical advancements and cancer therapies is published in peer-reviewed journals. His area of focus is developing new techniques for challenging surgical cases, including the use of robotic surgery for colorectal cancer.[5]
Since 2018, Dr. Marar has served as an assistant professor and the director of the general surgery sub-internship program at Central Michigan University.[6] In 2021, Dr. Marar received the Dr. Debasish and Chinu Mridha Spirit of Teaching Award from the Central Michigan University College of Medicine.[7]
In 2024, Dr. Marar collaborated on an ePoster titled “Comparing Outcomes of Open vs. Minimally Invasive Total Mesorectal Excision after Total Neoadjuvant Therapy in Rectal Cancer”, which was featured at the American Society of Colon and Rectal Surgeons Annual Scientific Meeting.[8]
Additional Activities
In 2015, Dr. Marar completed a surgical mission trip to Milot, Haiti. He donates time and resources to a variety of causes, including children’s health and cancer research.[3][7]
