Dr. Michael L. Johnson, DC (ret), DACNB (ret), is an American chiropractor, author, and educator specializing in functional medicine and functional neurology. He is best known as the founder of the Neurometabolic Super Group, a professional consulting network for healthcare practitioners, and the director of the Johnson Wellness Institute.[1]

Early Life and Education

Johnson grew up in Bessemer, Michigan. He attended Ferris State College (now Ferris State University) in 1977, where he initially planned to study pharmacy before transitioning to chiropractic medicine. He earned his Doctor of Chiropractic degree in March 1983 from Palmer College of Chiropractic in Davenport, Iowa.

Career

Johnson began his private practice in Appleton, Wisconsin, in 1983. Over four decades, his clinical focus shifted toward "root-cause" resolution of chronic and complex health conditions, such as autoimmune diseases, thyroid disorders, and neurological dysfunction.[2]

In 1997, Johnson expanded his practice to three clinics and began advanced training in functional neurology through the Carrick Institute. He holds post-doctoral certification as a Board Certified Chiropractic Neurologist. In 2016, he founded the Optimal Health Stem Cell and Wellness Institute after personally exploring regenerative medicine.[3]

Johnson currently directs the Johnson Wellness Institute in Michigan, where he utilizes a combination of homeopathic protocols based on lab work, red light therapy, and functional neurology to treat chronic conditions.[4]

Neurometabolic Super Group

In 2006, Johnson founded the Neurometabolic Super Group, a collaborative network designed to mentor healthcare providers, including MDs, DCs, and NDs—in managing complex patient cases. The group currently consists of over 400 physicians nationwide who utilize shared clinical insights and advanced metabolic principles.[5]

Authorship and Media Presence

Johnson is a prolific author of at least seven books focusing on natural protocols for chronic illnesses. Notable titles include:

  • The Thyroid Epidemic: End Your Thyroid Nightmare Using Natural Protocols!
  • You Can Beat Cancer!
  • You Can Beat Diabetes Naturally!

In addition to his books, Johnson maintains a significant digital presence. After his initial YouTube channel was removed, he launched a platform on TikTok in 2022. As of 2026, he has amassed approximately 632,000 followers, where he shares educational content on integrative medicine and lifestyle wellness.

Personal Life

Johnson is married to his wife, Michele, and they have five children. He recently returned to his boyhood home of Bessemer, Michigan, where he operates his telehealth practice.
